Had the charge 2. Sleep stages worked without fail since I got it last year. Bought ionic this week. I wear it slightly tighter than my charge 2. No sleep stages. I see a lot of post for this issue.

Sraj makes a valuable point, perhaps it isnt an issue with the firmware but an issue with the configuration or layout of the sensors themselves making a firmware updated pointless.
Interestingly stores here in Australia reduced the price of the new Ionic by nearly $100 just before Christmas which is partly the reason why I purchased the new watch, perhaps Fitbit are aware of an issue with the sensor layout and had to reduce the price of the watch to try and shift alot of units in the lead up to Christmas before the consumer was aware of the problem.
Has anyone received a response to the tickets they raised?

Same issue with sleep tracker. I have only had one accurate night out of 10 days. I may return it. I have had a Charge and Blaze with no known issues. Love my ionic. Loaded music, syncs fine, no other problems I can detect. Sent up a ticket. Chatted as well and said to wear on dominant hand to sleep leaving setting on non-dominate setting. Also said to restart. Still having the same problem. My biggest complaint is no one from Fitbit has said we know of the issue and we are working on an update.

So I have opened up a support call as Sunday night it recorded me starting sleep at 11pm (about right) then aparently I woke up at 1am and did some cardio excercise for 18minutes before having 30mins awake and then going to sleep again till 7am (my alarm goes off then) now far beit from me to complain about excercising in my sleep I wish I could do that all night but my heart rate average during the cardio was 56BPM so not a very good work out !
so far they have got me to do all the stuff I had previously done but still no sleep stages so waiting for them to get back to me to see what to do next

I placed my sleep setting at sensitive. It appears to have helped a little. Although I had higher steps climbed, which was not accurate for the day.

I am also adding my 2 cents. I have had mine since Thanksgiving. I barely have any sleep recorded. Maybe 1h per night. I thought I wasn't sleeping-but now that I see a ton of people have this problem, I feel better 🙂 Does complaining to fitbit help at all? I am annoyed that this watch cost so much and doesn't work consistently.

I have just gone through and finished the process with fitbit.
takes a while to get past first line but once you get through they are helpful.
they did get me to try it on someone else and every night i let my wife have it on it worked perfectly, now I had sort of thought it might be me as I have sleep apnea and I use a CPAP machine to sleep but I had thought that it was controlling my heart rate better but it does seem that on some occassions my heart rate has gone up to over 100BPM from a resting rate of 55-60 during the night so this is the reason that mine isnt recording correctly.
Worth getting someone else to try it for a few nights and if not contact fitbit support but be prepaired they will get you to do all the stuff in the FAQ's so make sure you have read them and tried them out so you can get on quicker.
Good luck, I am going to make another appointment with my sleep clinic

I'm getting occasional Sleep Stages data if I remember to move the watch way up on my forearm before falling asleep. And even then that only works about half of the time. It's really a pain in the butt to have to go through all of that just to get this function to work. My girlfriend has the same exact watch, wears it fairly loosely on her arm and gets Sleep Stages data every night. I know that I have a fairly low resting heart rate at night, but the watch never shows any break in recorded heart rates throughout the night.
I'm starting to think Fitbit does not have an answer for this issue. This makes me wonder if this inconsistency of this feature functioning for every user is just a design flaw in the hardware. Fitbit hasn't addressed and I don't think any of their moderators have either outside of the troubleshooting steps that are already on the website.

Just try to wear it even tighter. So during day I wear it a bit loose and during night I wear it a bit tighter. Tighter as in it shouldn't move at all and you can barely slide in one finger inside the strap.

I got my Ionic for Christmas and since then, the detailed sleep report has only been recorded one time! I have tried moving it to different positons on my arm with no impact to the results. All I get is the high level sleep stages. I use a CPAP every night and I have wondered if that affects the changes necessary for the Ionic to record the sleep detail. I will see if my husband will test it and see if there is a difference. This has been a disappointment!

I assumed it was my sleep apnea also but wasn't however it did work on my wife fine but before I went to my sleep clinic I saw my Dr who informed me I have a dodgy heart and am currently seeing a specialist and undergoing various tests so see the best way to resolve it.
I doubt I would have found any of this out without getting the ionic to track my sleep so am thankful for that and hope it will start to work after they resolve the issue with my heart

Get your other half to try it.
From the conversations I had with fitbit support they basically said it works on the heart rate to work out when you are sleeping and if you have slept for 3 or 4hrs (can't remember which it is) it will track your stages properly but if you have an apnea episode your heart rate will rise (mine does anyway) and it will think you are awake so not track, mine is all over the place so most of the time I am in fat burn or cardio zone.
See how it goes on other half first, read all the support info and give support a call.
They will get you to do all the stuff in support info and reset your device first but if still no joy you will get passed on to the USA tech team who are much better.
Good luck
