Not counting steps or calibrating

I just got a new Fitbit Ionic this week. I had a Charge HR 2 before this. I set it up and could not get the Ionic to calibrate. Issue number one. I have tried too many times to count to calibrate, with no success. I plug it in and set it on the table when attempting to do so.

Issue number two, which I'm presuming is because of issue number one? My Ionic is not tracking steps even remotely close to what I'm doing. It is almost 3:30 in the afternoon and my Ionic says I've taken 25 steps. I have turned it off and restarted it several times. I have synced it. I have done everything I can think of except pulling out my hair.

Someone please help!

*I did email Fitbit already just now. Not expecting much help based on other comments I've seen so far today. 😞

You may have done this, but you might try uninstalling and re-installing the Connect app.  In other words, start over fresh  with the installation in case there was a glitch of some kind with the original setup. mIf that doesn't work, try calling support.
