My ionic constantly stops receiving notifications. I've tried restarting the watch, restarting bluetooth, and restarting the phone. None of those work. The only thing that works is unpairing/repairing the watch, but then it works for another day or so and stops working again. And yes, notifications are "on" in both the app and watch settings.
So frustrating! Combine that with the heart rate monitor constantly over estimating my heart rate and this thing is basically useless... It doesn't measure my heart rate properly (which also means calorie burn is not accurate) and it doesn't send me notifications. It's not even heavy enough to make a good paper weight.

Hold down the single button then a screen will pop up to turn notifications on. turn it on

Tried all the previous "fixes" the only way I got the Notifixations back was to "Add New Device" it then asks you if you want to replace the current one. "Yes". Then set it up as per the steps as they come up.
Once programmed you may also have to press and hold the single button, it will then display the Notifications status. Switch to ON if not already done so. Worked for me hope it helps guys!

I had the same problem, in the end I held the two buttons on the right of the fit bit and all my notifications came back. Good luck.

I have the same problem, notifications from phone not showing up on fitbit ionic. Tried everything, all these steps. Also have other Bluetooth issues.
Let's face it - the Bluetooth functionality of the ionic is very bad and full of bugs. Incredible that they are not focusing on fixing that, instead of giving us the same workarounds over and over that may or may not work and if so only temporary.

I found a different solution to my problem. Repairing and unpairing phone and watch did nothing. Disabling and reenabling notification settings on phone and ionic did nothing. Removing the ionic from my profile and re-adding it did nothing.
In a last ditch I tried this: Uninstalling the app completely from the phone. That means removing all data, temporary cache, uninstalling the app. Then reinstalling. That seems to have fixed notifications (for now).

I agree, seems most issues people are having is caused mostly by software/firmware issues rather than faulty hardware. That gives me hope things will get better in the future 🙂

My Ionic would not receive notifications with my LG G6+. This is what I did to resolve it.
1. Bought a Galaxy S9+
2. Removed my watch from account.
3. Uninstalled from phone.
4. Unpaired.
All of a sudden it started working. Now if I can get the watch to update my stats automatically as advertised that would be great. Imagine my surprise when my weekly step count was 20K! Didn't update all week, but thought it was since my messages were coming through.
Complete trash this watch. The first one died on day one. I have to constantly restart this one. The other day two strange things happened, which is why I am here. The first, my screen went black, but the back light was still on; the hard reset took very long to fix. The second, my time kept flashing on and off for no reason. This watch was purchased on May 19th of this year.

I'm having the same issues (both not showing notifications and heart reate gone wild) with an Ionic paired with an iPhone8+. I'll be sitting relaxed at my desk and my heart rate will shoot from 58 to 120 back and forth several times with me relaxed. Also noticed that notifications stopped about the same time. I also believe it to be related to the latest update. For a year (with the same phone) it has never behaved this way and just started a little over a week ago.

I feel like every time they do an update, the watches get worse.

Until Fitbit makes an official statement concerning a fix for this problem, then I would consider all of these tips and tricks as workarounds and temporary fixes. This is unfortunate.
There is obviously a bug somewhere, which Fitbit confirmed in the following statement:
Thanks for letting us know about this issue. We’re aware of it, but may not be able to provide a fix in the immediate future. We'll continue to monitor the situation, and keep our team informed of the impact to you and other customers. We understand that this isn't the resolution you're hoping for, but rest assured we're always working to improve our products. We're sorry for any trouble. We appreciate your patience and look forward to getting you back on track.

Thing is, they will never fix it.

With respect, but I do not think buying a new phone should be a solution to a problem exclusive to the Ionic. Also, if you read, since I have my notifications working correctly my auto notification doesn't. Troubling that I am experiencing a one or the other.

After unpairing the watch to my phone, turning off notifications on the watch; then turning it off in the app, closing the app and rebooting my phone; finally turning notifications back on on both, the notifications appear to work again.
The heart rate still shoots up over 100 for no apparent reason for a minute or two at random times. Now they apparently have screwed with the phone app with a pointless redesign for no reason. It looks like Fitbit is determined to make me switch to an iWatch. If when they force me on the new app and it’s as bad as I’m hearing it is; they may finally succeed in moving a 5 year fan to something else.

I've been using Fitbit since the original Charge. There were always quirks with their watches, but I was a closet fanboy. I agree with you regarding Fitbit trying to push people to other smart watches. I feel that in the past two years, maybe, every time they do an update, they make the situation worse. My Charge 2 would be extremely problematic after an app update. I can only imagine how frustrating it has been for people who've been lucky enough to own an Ionic for longer than a year.

Right gabesdaddee I’ve had my Ionic since Christmas 2018 and loved it until now; although the website redo was really annoying until they put it back. I am diabetic and primarily us the app and web site to track my carbs. I really need to know how many I take in and when to keep my sugar levels stable. So if they mess with the food tracking at all they can make the entire package useless for me.
It it really seems like they change software just for the sake of change rather than fine tuning it to make it better. They are paying far too much attention to cosmetics rather than usefulness.
First rule of app development: don’t mess with what works!
Second rule: never take away functionality users are used to in future updates!

I've been saying this to my wife for years. I agree.
