Hello FB community.
A key change for 3.0 is
now my question is can I turn this function off.
I don't like it as it is very distracting. I know that the solution will be to turn-off notifications but that's not the point I want to have it like before: a vibration when I get a notification and then decide if I want to see it or not by waking my watch on manually.
is this possible? Thanks

Wondering the same thing. My battery life will go down with this feature.

I agree, there should be a setting to have this be optional. It’s draining battery life I’m sure, and at the same time it’s a privacy issue. If someone messages me, anyone who looks at my wrist can see it. I’m uncomfortable with that, especially working in a bar where people intentionally look and comment on my notifications, so I’ve ended up disabling notifications constantly and that was originally one of the main reasons I purchased this product. Super disappointed. Please just make it optional.

100% agree. We need a fix for this, Fitbit. This is a huge privacy issue.

Agreed...this is absolutely a privacy issue, and needs to be made optional.
A great feature for some...not so much for others.

I agree it needs to be optional, but all I do is tap the ionic under my opposite wrist if my hands are full or just cover the Ionic with my other hand.. Only takes a second or so... Saves many seconds of battery life..

Is there any way to turn this off or uninstall 3.0? It's a huge privacy invasion. This needs to be optional. I'm disabling all sorts of notifications, to guard my privacy, and the ability to get updates without looking at my phone is a major part of why I bought this device. Very disappointed!!!!

100% agreed. I work with the public in a similar industry. My notifications are nobody's business!

It's quite disappointing that after 3 weeks no one from Fitbit has acknowledged this concern.

I’ve pretty much given up hope on it being an issue that does get resolved. I enjoyed the product and this has pretty much ruined it for me, I’ve been having multiple issues since the update. I honestly just want to buy a different brands device at this point and the only reason I’m still using it is because I have to monitor my heart rate and sleep, but can’t justify spending more money on another device when I only got this recently.

Another unfortunate side-effect of this "enhancement" is, since now I must keep my Ionic locked so my notifications aren't displayed to everyone, the ten minute notification reminder for hourly movement do not happen. It's probably always been the case (and no doubt a bug), just not noticed until now. If you're going to wake my screen for all other notifications, why not for the hourly reminder? Bug.

HATE IT! I just spoke with an agent... and no you can't turn this off. She said because it was feedback from customers you can't do anything about it. I don't want it to light up constantly.... I sit in meetings and don't need it lighting up and showing what is coming through my phone.

Does anyone know if this issue has been addressed yet? Or Acknowledged?

Unfortunately this was an update for version 3.0 software. There is no way to stop notifications from automatically showing. Don’t waste your time with customer service - they will have you do a bunch of troubleshooting and a factory reset before finally telling you that it isn’t an option to get vibrate only without notifications automatically showing. I can’t believe that fitbit isn’t more concerned about privacy - this is how companies wind up getting sued by someone who feels like their privacy has been violated... about the only thing you can do is go to the suggestion for this at the link below and vote for it - if enough people vote to have this fixed then they will change the status from “not currently planned” to maybe actually fixing the problem!! Or the other option is to go with another device from a company that actually CARES about their customer’s privacy...

That’s interesting that you can get yours to do that - because even when I “lock” my device my texts still light up for all the world to see - I tried that as a work around even though I knew it would be a total pain in the rear end but I thought ok at least it would give me a modicum of privacy but alas it does not work. So now I have the hastle of unlocking it for everything and everyone can still see my texts - I went back to using it unlocked...

Thanks @FelicityB. I was unaware of the feature suggestion section. I added my (insignificant) vote.
I am still dumbfounded that Fitbit would not put this change behind a switch. Simply dumbfounded.

I was unaware of the suggestions section until just a few days ago myself - that’s why I wanted to post it here - hey, every vote counts! I’m hoping that more people vote too and maybe we can get some legs behind this! 🙂
