So I had tried many other things...  toggling notification settings on the watch.  Toggling them on the iPhone app.  Nothing worked.  I didn't try to reset the watch because I WAS getting txt and call notifications so I thought that the watch side was OK.  WELL.... I did reset the watch on your suggestion and that fixed it.  I have no idea why as it really don't make sense.... but it did work.  Thx!

I've restarted several times. The only thing I ever get is incoming calls notifications, but other than that, not a single app notification has ever shown up on my Ionic.

@mecrtp same thing happened and worked to resolve the issue, for me.  I guess they're getting out the bugs.

Ionic / Aria / retired Surge / retired Blaze / a few more retired Fitbits / three failed Nike Fuel Bands

Restarting did restore my sleep data, steps per hour and gps tracking when running. This has not restored my notifications. I only got notifications for one day, Monday, and none since then. I have notifications enabled on the Ionic, in my phone (Samsung), and in the Fitbit app but receive no notifications now.

Fitbit needs to get these bugs worked out. I see a lot of frustrated users in the community, including me.

I went a step further, given the number of Fitbit devices I still have.

On Android 8 (Oreo):

  • Notifications used to work when my FitBit Blaze was my only tracker with notifications enabled
  • I activated/setup my Ionic, and notifications (from apps) never worked. I would get phone call notifications, and absolutely nothing else. No "almost there" messages from FitBit, no messages, nothing.
  • Yesterday, I deleted *ALL* my trackers via the FitBit app. The only thing left is my FitBit Aria scale.
  • I cleared the Cache through Android -> App Info -> Fitbit, then deleted the app data.
  • I uninstalled the app, restarted the phone, and restarted the ionic.
  • Reinstalled the app, set it up with my user account, and setup the Ionic again.
  • I followed all the app and system prompts to enabled notifications, then chose the apps that should send notifications to the Ionic.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNND nothing. Again, phone calls show up on the Ionic, and no other notifications.

I have to keep turning off notifications and re-enabling. Even then I only get some. When it's working I get half of my texts.

Rebooted phone and Ionic. Didn't help. In fact rebooting Ionic loses my clock face! Probably gonna return if no improvement in a few days.

I only received text messages for one day.  Nothing since.  And everyday I have to go into the app and manually add my city so that the weather app will work.

I'm so disappointed in this product. I'm willing to wait a bit longer for bug fixes but will return within the 45 day return policy if this doesn't get resolved! This item is expensive and ALL features should be working as promised!!!

Ionic (or Blaze) may still be active on someone else’s phone under Bluetooth settings. Go to Bluetooth settings on previous device, click on it and tick forget this device. Set up new Fitbit from scratch.

Hope this has helped

ive only had the ionic for 1 day and noticed it sometimes has a huge delays on notifications from phone. So after researching and reading this forum i didnt try anything from here but went into my phone's settings and turned my hotspot on for my fitbit ionic to connect to it then asked my girlfriend to send me a text via fb since that is what i selected as default sms and i got it instantly on my watch and phone. I do not know if that fixes all issues or just social media yet. but im assuming your fitbit has to be connected to the internet for faster notifications. reason being, its not really a smartwatch with its own plan it run simply over bluetooth and wifi . Hope this helps!

I'm not receiving ANY notifications anymore and have tried everything except resetting the Ionic.  When you did the reset, did you just Shutdown and restart or did you do the Factory Reset?

Also, did it remove your music from the Ionic?  I REALLY don't want to have to go through the trouble of trying to put the music back on.

I just did a restart by pressing the left and bottom right buttons together for about 10 seconds. If your phone uses other Bluetooth devices such as Bluetooth speakers that can also ‘interfere’ with the ionic too; it overrides (takes ownership of) the Bluetooth signal.

Try forgetting all the other devices on your phone so the only active device is your ionic to rule this out

Basically I just removed the ionic from the initial device it was paired to from the Bluetooth settings AS WELL AS removing it from the app and all was good and has been since. I have an ionic too now and both have worked fine since. If all else fails just switch the Bluetooth off then on again on your phone. Hope this helps

....not sure about the music though, don’t store any on there. I’m sure just a reset won’t remove any music

Am I the only one that thinks it’s kinda ridiculous that we have to go through all of this to make this work properly?

I don’t see how unpairing all my other bluetooth devices (especially since I’m not using them, they are powered off and not drawing BT signal) will make this work properly. Speakers, headphones…not on. They aren’t drawing BT. I’ll give it a shot though. Tried turning BT on and off already…that didn’t work.

Kind of a crazy thing to go through to get such an expensive piece of equipment to work properly.

Just bought my ionic, very disappointed. The notification is not working, all turned on,  only incoming calls are working. I almost sure its a bug. My surge2 works fine. The ionic is not getting any notifications.. What is going on..

Hi. The 3 ‘default’ notifications (on an iPhone) are calls, texts and Callander events. Other App notifications get ‘recognised’ after you are sent notifications a few times. Get someone to send you a couple of Facebook Messenger messages for example and it’ll appear in the App notifications bit. You can then decide whether you want the notifications sent to the Ionic. Are you getting the 3 defaults?

Not sure if you can only send notifications from your phone to only one fitbit device? Are both devices paired by Bluetooth?
