Option to disable left button during exercise

Please provide the option to disable the left button during exercise...can’t really see a need for Fitbit Pay when I’m working out at home 😄 Several times now while lifting weights (I wear my Ionic on my right arm) I’ve hit than button by mistake when my wrist is bent and it brings up Fitbit pay. When this happens - it also reverts the “screen always on during exercise” back to the “off” position (back to the “raise to view” setting). Please and thx!!

@RatedE I hope you're doing well! Thanks for sharing your suggestion with the Community. Do you mean that the option to enter the PIN pops up when you press that button?

If that's what is going on, please try this option which will prompt the PIN only when ready to pay for anything using Fitbit Pay. Note you need to have a credit card set up already for this to work:

  • On the Fitbit App, go to your Device Lock Settings.
  • Choose "Enable for Fitbit Pay" as your option.

This option should prompt the PIN to be validated only when paying, you should try this out.

Another thing you can do if this happen to not work for you is wearing your Ionic a bit higher up your wrist. This is a recommended placement of your tracker to get more accurate heart rate readings (as blood flow is stronger there) and should also avoid your wrist from accidentally pressing the button when bent while doing the weights. Check this article for more details regarding wrist placement.

You can also post your idea on the Feature Suggestions Board. This is the best place to ask for improvements you'll like to see on Fitbit in the future. Please share the idea with me once posted!

Try these options and let me know the outcome! Smiley Happy

I'd actually like the option for this (but) also more importantly for myself, the right hand buttons as well.

When I'm sometimes performing pushups or anything that causes my hand to bend, I've sometimes ended up pushing the bottom right hand button to 'pause' the workout and then sometimes ended up pushing multiple buttons during workouts to end it prematurely.

I'd love it if it were possible to disable the buttons during certain workouts or have it so you can turn the screen on with the buttons but then have to use the screen specifically to interact any further, it's very easy to push a button accidentally during most workouts whereas it's much less likely you'll push a button and then also end up pushing the screen.

An idea which would be great would be that my old android watch had, I could turn the screen on with a button although in order to interact any further, I would need to manually swipe away a lock screen (or you could set it up with a PIN each time) and then you'd be able to start/end/pause the workout.

Thanks a lot for reading, really hope this could be considered for a future firmware update 🙂

@Sharpypus Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Thanks for sharing your ideas for future features you would like to have on Ionic.

I believe this is a good idea. The best thing to do in this case would be to post it on the Feature Suggestions Board. This is the best place to ask for future features. Users can vote for ideas they like to support and make them popular. The more votes, the better.

I was able to find a similar idea on that board that was categorized as "Not Currently Planned". Please take a look at it and try not to suggest the same:

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

For those struggling with this issue, and have access to a 3d printer, I have designed a bumper style cover for the watch to prevent accidental presses. It is a quick 10 min print. I went through many iterations to come to this design, and it fits very snug and is not easy to accidentally knock off.
