Question: how to fix step counting problem?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The last two times that I went for a walk and used the Exercise app to track the walk,  the number of steps suddenly jumped to doubling the actual count.  This happened shortly after I Ended the tracking and pressed Done and went on the Fitbit app on my iPhone to check the data.

Will resetting the watch to factory settings be enough to correct the problem?  Not sure what else to do.

The watch is eight months old and I have never had a problem like this.

Since my experience with third party apps and dials is that most are error prone, either immediately or after a while of usage, I decided to try using only one of the Fitbit dial faces and see if the error in counting steps after Exercise continues. Hopefully, that will correct the problem and I won't have to reset the watch to factory settings.

I will check back in a week or so.

Maybe just a restart is needed.

Is a restart the same as a Factory Reset that clears all personal data and apps?

No, it basically just turns the watch off, then back on. It's under the "settings" icon, scroll all the way down to the bottom and select "about". Then scroll all the way down and select "shutdown". To turn back on, press the left button on the watch. Doing this seems to fix some problems.
