I've been given a replacement Ionic as mine developed a couple of faults. What do I need to do to set my new one up? Is it a case of plug and play?

You need to link it to your account first.
Go into the account section of the app (the icon looks like an ID card) and select "set up a device". Choose "ionic" and it will ask if you want to replace your existing fitbit. Just say yes and follow the prompts.
All your data, settings, badges etc will be retained.
