Retired my Ionic, left the Fitbit ecosystem

Seeing that Fitbit still hasn't fixed a lot of the issues mentioned here and good suggestions are collected but mostly ignored (example 1, example 2), I gave up. So after over two years of having the Fitbit Ionic, I stopped using it two days ago. Liberating.

I've now replaced it with a Garmin Fenix 6 Pro. And sure, while being more expensive than the Ionic, it can do everything the Ionic can and more, including a usable SpO2 sensor (that you can actually see charts for), working notifications with iOS 13, multiple clock faces, support for several external sensors, and more metrics than you could ever wish for.

Sure, Fitbit announced the upcoming FitbitOS 4.1 that might solve some problems, but I'm sceptical it will be all that different. Also, the FitbitOS 4.0 release was only pushed to my Ionic about a month and a half ago, so the 4.1 release probably won't reach some devices until next summer...

Still, wishing you and Fitbit all the best. I was a big fan for over five years and have sponsored them by buying several devices and providing them with loads of data, but it ends here. Loyalty should go both way.

I did that long time ago. Lack of features and finally, death of Ionic (on warranty but I didn't pursue for replacement as Ionic is not fit for purpose). I'm wondering whether it's worth to upgrade from Fenix 5 to Fenix 6. Xmas is coming after all 😄 You forgot about one more interesting feature that Fenix has - proper Spotify support 🙂

Ah yes, Spotify (as well as Deezer and Amazon Music), with offline playlists! Haven't used it yet, but knowing that it's possible is awesome!

I've used the Fenix 3 (non HR) before this Fenix 6 for my serious activities like running, cycling and skiing (I wore the Ionic mostly as a basic 24/7 activity tracker with some extras). The upgrade from the Fenix 3 to the Fenix 6 is huge, the screen is greatly improved in terms of sharpness and size. Also, the speed of the Fenix 6 is awesome, syncing happens within 10 seconds, GPS is acquired rapidly, and everything feels snappy.

I'd say that if you now have the Fenix 5 Plus, you can maybe wait for the next iteration of the Fenix and not even miss too much. But from the Fenix 5 (non Plus) and before, it'll be a great upgrade.

I'm close to doing the same! I got the 4.1 update today. I did not fix any if the issues. It was a joke and big disappointment.
