Finally had good weather yesterday so I went for a 5 mile run outside.
GPS enabled on the Ionic and music (choppy as usual, but music nonetheless). The tracker was giving me the 0.50 mile splits and roared once I reached my step goal.
Well, I synced with the phone when I returned from the run only to have the run converted to an elliptical workout!! How does that happen? And the worse part, the workout was not synced to Strava. The stats for the workout look nothing like the stats from a selected Elliptical (slide over to Exercise and select Elliptical) nor the auto detected Elliptical workout.
I have autodetect workouts enabled, but this has never happened before. Plus, I manually selected Run from the slight over to Exercise -> Run menu. I waited for GPS to connect, then I started running.
What happened and how can I correct this workout so it syncs to Strava like my previous runs?

A warm welcome to the Community @dyzzle! I appreciate the details that you've mentioned. Sorry to hear about the inconvenience that you had with the activity.
It's pretty weird that once it synced, it changed the activity to elliptical and not run as you initially chose. I would like you to restart your watch and then track another activity.
Also, please make sure that you have all the activities properly set to be detected on your Dashboard. Since, you wore your watch during the activity. You can delete it and then manually log it again.
If this has happened before or if you found that any other activity has changed once it has synced. Please let me know.
Hope this helps. I'll be around if you need further assistance.

Thanks for the reply.
So basically I lost this particular run with no way of getting it to convert from elliptical to run?
Also, are you saying there is really no explanation for why the system gives precedence to an automatically detected elliptical (incorrect) to a manually selected run with GPS?

Thank you for getting back @dyzzle! You can try changing it by deleting the one that was already logged and then manually log it as run. Since, you wore your Ionic while exercising then you can do it this way.
I can't give you an explanation as why it happened, because I haven't seen this before. However, your feedback and comments helps us to investigate any strange situation that might be happening.
Keep me posted.

Thanks for the reply. I deleted the workout and added a manual run. It still did not sync to Strava. Also, now heart rate data for that workout is gone. This is so frustrating. Will replacing this particular Ionic help? No music, mistaken workouts, steps missing when you're in a challenge with someone in a different timezone ... what's next?

Thank you for getting back @dyzzle. I appreciate the details that you continue sharing. The workout that was already synced, won't change even when you unlinked both accounts. However, if you do this procedure, it should improve the synchronization.
I've shared your post with our Support team and they've mentioned that you already have a case with them. Please continue troubleshooting the issues that you're experiencing via email so they can provide you with the best resolution always based on the Fitbit Warranty.
Hope this helps. I'll be around if you need further assistance.

Thanks for the reply. I was unaware I had a case with Support. No one from Fitbit support has contacted me regarding this issue?? It would be awesome if you would open a case for the misinterpretation of this exercise as an elliptical workout.
I do have a case for the music not playing, but nothing for this exercise issue.
Best,
