Hi there,
I have had my iconic for about a month and today my battery went completely dead for the first time. When I went to charge it can up a 0% so I left it to charge. When I returned I couldn't turn it on and my app was saying battery was full. I restarting the watch by pressing the left button and bottom right. The clock screen came up but nothing happens when I press the buttons or swipe the screen? Should I just take it back?

@emma80 Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Thanks for trying those workarounds. Usually, a restart should sort this out. Have you tried performing another restart by any chance? That could help out.
Also, is your Ionic syncing? If it is, try changing the clock face to another one from the Fitbit App and sync your Ionic. I've seen that this has helped other users with similar situations. Give it a try!

Just adding on to what @SantiR said, the battery icon on your app is as of your last sync, so you should not go by that. Instead, you should go by the battery icon on the watch. When it's fully charged (as I assume yours isn't right now), swipe left and you will see a "Settings" screen. The icon is in the upper right hand corner.
