Screen protector for Ionic

My Phone notification got me all hyped up for the new Fitbit Ionic announcement today. I always thought the charge was missing something and this new watch is exactly how I pictured it. I love my fitbits and I have been using this Screen Protector brand since the fitbit zip and until this very day, my screen looks new even if I attach it to my dog's neck collar now when we go running in the afternoon. lol! they should make one for dogs haha. I already put my order in for both my new Ionic and this shield saved all my fitbit devices. I recommend this company.

Silly me, I don't know what a "wet install" is.  🙂

The screen protector I purchased comes with a film covered on both sides with a thinner film; peel the "Bottom" layer off, affix the film to the face of the Ionic (and push out the bubbles), peel the top layer off.  That's all there was to it.

Well a wet install is where you use a very mild detergent spray, it basically gives you time to move the protector around and remove the bubbles before it finally adheres, the same concept as a skin.

Ahhh, well then the protector I used qualifies as a dry install.  Once installed, I had to partially peel the film back a couple of times to get it down with no bubbles; I'm thinking the full installation took no more than five minutes.  Having done it once, I'm thinking if/when I have to put another film on it will take me no more than a minute.  🙂

I use 3M paint protection film on the front of our cars, and on my bikes. I've also applied UV film to the windows on our house. You can apply it dry, but its better to apply wet as you can easily remove air bubbles and then let it dry.

Looks good @shipo. Like you say you can't tell anything is on there, well certainly not from the picture anyway. My installation was nothing like that haha. I think for now I will leave the screen naked.

I've used the Skinomi skins on other devices, as long as you do the install correctly it'll be fine - if you don't, you'll get blurring and / or visual abnormalities (a lens refract effect) from the film. Other brands may be hit or miss depending their film supplier. I've always had luck with them.

The only difference between a Skinomi for one device and another device is the die cut (shape). It's still the same material and adhesives.

I have bought several of these in different colors and they're great protection for the metal pieces of the Ionic and they really look good.  I like them.

Unfortunately the "gorilla glass" isn't very strong. I have only had my ionic for 3 days, this afternoon I barely bumped my hand against my desk at work and I now have this huge scratch on my screen.

I have been concerned with the fact that our wearables will eventually get some scratches and dings. Like for regular watches you cannot avoid it. Protecting the screen is one thing but also the case should be protected. However, like for a mobile phone, a hardcase protector will collect dirt on the inside, ultimately scratching the surface of your wearable.
This has happened to all my phones so far.

What did you do? ... I have had mine several months and it cracked yesterday .... I had been in an arm sling for last three weeks, so not much activity to crack screen .... Not a happy camper here ....

nope the glass will crack ..... FitBit design does not protect the edges of the glass .... get a scratch proof shield  and/or protective case like your phone  or you will crack your IONIC like I did with me arm in a sling after surgery ... go figure that one ....

Due to the Ionics curved glass, I very much doubt you will ever find a Tempered Glass protector for it. I tried a couple of film types, but eventually I just decided to use it without any protection. I've had it since launch and so far so good.

Let's leave the absurdity of the claim aside... but do you think that they will ever know that you had one if you peal it off before sending the watch in for repairs?

Go to the Nillkin website, and send them a message, anyone who thinks we should have a good, glass protector.  If they get enough momentum, they'll produce one, I've seen it happen for "smaller volume" devices, I think they're "layup overhead" is pretty small, and they've always responded, with a personal message, when I ping them.

I have a "watch" on their site, for the Ionic, and if they make one (I already pinged them), I'll be ready to purchase, I prefer a glass protector, far-and-above, nothing beats the smoothness and durability.

Nillkin works because it's thinner than most (0.26, see my other post), but curved glass is do-able too, like my OnePlus 5T, it has a good glass protector that's curved/beveled, and has been on for a couple of months.

I've a Nillkin go almost a year, without peeling, on a curved phone...
