Sleep Monitoring with Ionic

I see that my watch monitors my sleep automatically. The statistics are pretty good, give a picture of the nights sleep. Since this is done automatically, why does there exist an option in the settings to tell the watch you are going to sleep? I'm confused if I am supposed to be using that. Can a veteran user please clarify this for me? Thank you.

That option of 'begin sleep now' is just for trackers without heart rate monitors, that cannot use heart rate for detecting sleep.  It seems that it could be grayed out but it isn't.

However I have found one non-official use for it.  Fitbit will not detect naps of less than one hour.  Sometimes I will use it if I am going to take a 30-minute nap and want to get credit for at least the time asleep, though no sleep stages.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
