After the update last night my New Ionic that I’ve had for 2 days won’t sync or show heart rate. Fitbit developers are subprime idiots.

Keep this in mind: the Ionic hasn't been officially released yet. What everyone has in their hands right now are pre-release versions of the Ionic, at least firmware wise.

I know a lot of people were excited to get the Ionic as fast as humanly possible. It's a big improvement over current Fitbits, at least on paper. Software always ships with bugs in it. Software gets continually updated during the life of the product, and it's usually better at the end of the product than it was at the beginning.

I'm sure the programmers at Fitbit are burning the midnight oil to get the software mostly fixed by the official ship date, October 2nd. I'll bet you a glazed donut that there is a firmware update on Oct 2 or 3 that will fix most of these problems, or else Fitbit is going to have a very bad quarter, and you might want to think about shorting their stock.....

Agreed with @POTATOEMAN.

When my boyfriend tried to set up the Ionic, it not only took time, but some attempts.

Then, the issues were with transferring music and changing the clock face, none of them would work as expected.

A couple of days later, music is working perfectly, and every time he changes a clock face, it loads quickly on the watch.

Time and patience, perhaps a couple of restarts, and removing the tracker from the bluetooth on your cellphone from time to time to get it to sync normally. That has always been the trick with fitbit trackers.

Just posting what I said in another users thread.

Remember we preordered it and it's the first watch of Fitbits kind it so we need to give it some time. If later on down the road it doesn't get fixed and/or stays the same with no increase in smart watch function or apps then yes we can do a better review of it but for now it's still too new to judge.

I'm sure the Fitbit team will release another firmware update soon, we did get an update just a few days after getting it so that was pretty quick.

How can we update if the app cannot find the tracker?

I posted part of this in a different thread, but I think (IMO) it bares repeating here.  I agree with CopperWolf808!  So here goes.....

Well, fairness!  Almost ALL pre-ordered devices have initial issues, at least in my experience and I'm kind of a techie.  That being said, what needs to be considered is how well Fitbit handles those rough spots and how reactive they are to fixes/addressing those issues.  So far they have rolled out their first firmware update, and that was pretty quick.

So, in conclusion, I think people just need to take a breath and relax.  Lets allow Fitbit time to react to ALL of US and than breath.  Let them evaluate what is happening and do the right thing.  Whatever happens, remember, you bought the Ionic because you had high hopes of a really cool device, that has NOT changed, it still is and will remain so, The Ionic!!!!

EDIT:  I also wanted to say one more thing (and then I promise to get off my stool, LOL).  Remember, the folks that come to forums and post issues is only a SMALL fragment of the people who made a purchase.  I have served on a lot of roll outs and what is happening right now is nothing new, it ALWAYS happens no matter who.  For every issue, there are hundreds without any!  PERSONALLY, I have NOT had a single glitch.  Of course, this is just MHO......  Thanks for listening!

So, what has worked for me is using my iPhone app instead of my PC app.  So, "Donnamt16" give that a try and see if it helps any!!

Hi

I had a similar problem where it wouldn't sync. I tried re-starting the Ionic but still no joy.  Try removing the Ionic from your app (Account > Ionic > Remove This Ionic) and then go through the process of adding it again. This worked for me.

It is the first thing i will do when i get home is try it with my pc. It
synced 2 hours ago with my windows 7 work pc. I have windows 10 at home so
use the windows app instead of the older connect so im slightly concerned
it will be two days before i can sync again.

I don't understand what you mean. I bought the watch, it arrived yesterday. Unless this is a figmant of my imagination I would say this watch is released!

It's out in the wild, but not OFFICIALLY released. Official release date is October 1.

I was expecting buggy software and some new features to not work immediately. I was not expecting the absolute brick I received. Mine randomly turns on and off and that's it. The company shipped devices to regular customers, i.e. It's been released. This is unacceptable and a slap in the face to loyal customers. I'm married to a software engineer, I get buggy, this isn't buggy it's broken.

This happens...has support sent a replacement yet?

Best Answer

Customer support has been ignoring my emails since I asked for a new device. Im giving them a bit longer then calling again.

*update* customer service has refused to ship a new unit to me until the broken one is received back to them. They also told me they would not be overnighting my package back. I am now officially extremely angry.

*second update*

when I called again I was told that because the RMA had already been approved customer service would Be unable to help me further. Conveniently the RMA department doesn't have phones for customer service (yes, I was actually told the returns department has no phones and no way other than email to communicate). I asked for a supervisor and once again explained that I do not want to wait the 10 days quoted to me before they even consider sending a replacement. I offered to let them put a hold on my credit card to ensure my return arrives. Supposedly he wil be calling me back within an hour. If I get any more hassle I'm buying an Apple Watch and reporting this to my credit card company.

For the ones having this issue of the update, this worked for my boyfriend:

Open bluetooth on your iphone device and remove the ionic if it appears as connected.

restart the iphone.

restart the ionic.

unpair it from your account from your online dashboard.

attempt the set up process one more time.

if there is any pending firmware update, once the set up is done, the update should start automatically.

This should work for android devices as well according to the help site.

Hope this can be helpful.

Also try standing close to your router. That worked for me twice.

Has anyone compared the Gear S2 watch to the Iconic fitbit?  Any Techie's out there?

Not sure what todo....  seem to have trouble with the Samsung Gear S 2 staying connected to by sync number, and do not make phone calls on it any way.  What would you say compared to the Iconic, I have been looking hard at?   Sure could use some help behind the average consumer.   THANKS!
