Step Count Freezes for Minutes, Floors Not Recorded Correctly

I got my Ionic as a Father’s Day Gift.   Am rather ambivalent about it.   Have not worn a wristwatch in 20 years or so.  From that standpoint it is nice to have the time convenient without pulling out my phone.

The rest of the features have not left we “wowed.”   Step count is very inaccurate no matter what I do.   I measured my  stride length and entered that number in.    Tried use the automatic feature and that too renders results that at times are off by 30% or more.

Also have noted the step count can freeze for minutes at a time.  For example just tonight I had 230 steps for the hour at 7:56 PM.   I walked steadily for the next four minutes and it counted only 7 steps.  The last two minutes the count froze at 237.  The numbers did not roll over into the next hour or even on the step total for the day.

Then there is the counting of flights of stairs.   Last week I decided I wanted to log 30 flights.  Unfortunately the Ionic was way off base with the count.   I had to climb the stairs a total of 52 times that day to get credit for 30.

I guess it will force me to exercise more this way but even still I am very disappointed in the technology of the Fitbit Ionic.  Had it not been a gift, I likely would have attempted to return it for a cash refund.  Not possible in most places but I would have given it a good try.

Would not recommend the Fitbit Iconic to anybody.

@JasonWinsl Welcome to the Fitbit forums! Thanks for taking the time to post the experience you have had with Ionic accuracy so far. Thanks for sharing all the details about this situation and for setting your stride length in order to sort this out.

In this case, I'd recommend performing a restart on your watch. This should help you out if the watch is not counting the data correctly.

Regarding the floors, your watch have an altimeter sensor that can detect when you're going up or down in elevation. Your device registers one floor when you climb about 10 feet at one time. It does not register floors when you go down. Please check if the flight of stairs is 10 feet in measurement.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy
