Steps don’t count when GPS is lost

I have an Ionic and my wife has a versa with no gps. We walked round a supermarket today and I only registered 430 steps and her versa recorded over 2000. We easily walked 2000 but because the gps wasn’t working inside, my ionic didn’t credit me with the steps. This seems a really bad flaw and I must be doing something wrong.

Were you pushing a shopping cart?  Your Fitbit wrist being held steady can prevent steps from being counted.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
