I have done that twice and out of the 6 times I have charged my Ionic I have logged 5k to 20k steps while doing so even after the resets. Speaking to FitBit techs on the help line they told me its a software issue on their end. If you have the Android app and look at the hourly log where it shows the intensity of your steps you will find the correct step value. Supposedly it will be fixed this week.
Fitbit said it’s a hardware bug or a firmware problem. They wanted me to send it back for exchange. I ended up returning mine to Best Buy. I’ll buy one again after they put some out that actually work.
