Steps while driving

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've seen others talk about it here but I thought I'd start a dedicated thread.

Tip of the day. No need to walk to get fit, merely drive your car for up to four hours and Fitbit will say you've done enough steps for the day.

When will Fitbit resolve this issue?

Does anybody know any workarounds?

If this is a "bug", then it's a bug that my analog pedometer suffers from as well.

Just  pay attention to when you drive,  and then delete those "offending" steps from this all important step goal at the dashboard. Done.

Much ado about nothing.

??

Of course it's a bug. How can any walk the speed I'm driving (there is GPS in this thing right? Or does it assume I'm the bionic man?).

Secondly if Fitbit doesn't have a sure fire method of detecting that I'm driving then I should be able to put in into a driving mode.

The rest are annoying workarounds although thanks for helpfully posting the link to that app I will check it out. These apps though should not need to exist.

One assumes you aren't using a car at work, a taxi driver, or don't have to commute by car much then. It's a BIG deal. Perhaps it detects army tanks better.

The gps isn't on all the time. If it were, you'd have 0 battery life and then you'd be whining about that.

As for "driving mode", go put in a feature request, like everyone else. I bet if you do a simple search (something you're fond of telling others to do), you'll find it's been requested for a long time.

Sorry it's a bug if it thinks I'm walking when I'm driving.  Not providing a facility to inform it I'm driving is pretty stupid as well. Btw so how does Fitbit auto detect if I'm swimming or cycling etc?

Thanks for telling me I'm whining, nice touch. But it's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. If you don't like it please go and take a hike (but if you do make sure you don't use a car). I'm often in a car, the watch notification are great in this scenario, with your workaround I'd spend ages farting around every week. That's just not acceptable to me.

I'll log this with support if I get a chance.

Have another medal Mutley.

I'm hoping when the app gallery launches there might be an app similar to drivebit, but able to launch from the Ionic.

You should get over this. This isn't a precision device. If it moves it considers that activity. When you're in the car you're moving. It's getting bumped around and causes it to register activity.

So you are saying that measuring activity when driving a car is useful?? If it isn't don't you think we should be able to switch it off? You think turning off pedometer should not be available and we should just suck up false results of thousands of steps when driving? Are you kidding me?

Have you also noticed that when you are cycling or swimming etc this device can auto detect what you are doing such as a car movement? So why not a car?

I fear this thread is getting hijacked by people who don't or hardly drive. Amazed they can't see why this is a big problem for many people or maybe they just don't care.

The number of steps my tracker records while I'm driving is so small compared to the daily total that I just don't worry about them.  I suppose in a perfect world there would be an app called Driving that one would select when one gets in the vehicle, and it would turn off everything but the HR monitor. But, it isn't a perfect world, and there isn't such an app yet. Of course, another option would be to just turn off the Ionic while driving if the recorded steps interfere with tracking exercise.

The best option would be to be able turn off the pedometer. Like I said earlier the notifications on the watch can be very useful when driving. Like I say drive for under 4 hours and you meet your exercise goals. That's hardly trivial issue.

It is sort of typical of Fitbit to ignore the basics, it doesn't even supply aeroplane mode as well for instance, another absolutely essential feature.

Drivebit is supposed to automate this with tasker intents. You could say,
detect my car Bluetooth and don't count steps. Disconnect and then go back
to normal.

Yeah the best option so far, but the mind still boggles as to why you just can't turn off the pedometer or that the device can't autodetect driving .. hardly an unusual activity.

Yeah....mine has started doing this recently.  Why fitbit, why.

I'm with you all the way. why cant fitbit auto recognise you are driving.  if it can't be done then they should say so before you buy. I'm driving around in my taxi all day long and getting thousands of steps recorded.  yes I have the drivebit app. I'm in and out of this car maybe 30 times a day. I can't be doing with turning drivebit on and off all the time. I do believe it is the vibrations on rough roads that are causing it to count steps and I am going to buy a steering wheel cover to try to absorb some of it. see if this helps
