Still getting simplified sleep

I’m still getting simplified sleep instead of sleep stages.  I’mve tried all the other suggestions such as checking how tight and location on my wrist, I dont select Begin Sleep, the battery is full, I’ve reset the Ionic multiple times, logged out of the app, ended the app, restarted the phone.  This seems to be happen when a new update is released.  I shouldn’t have to do a factory reset to force updates and lose my apps or settings.

@Allroadchiver I hope you're doing well! Thanks for reporting this situation once again. Thanks for trying all of those steps in order to sort this out. Also, thanks for your feedback regarding updates.

Fitbit just released a new OS version for Ionic (OS 2.1). I believe you just recently updated Ionic to that version. I just wanted to know if the update fixed this for you?

I'm also only getting basic sleep info, I've updated the firmware to 32.10.15 which seems to have cured most of the problems I was seeing except the sleep patterns..

Unfortunately I have the same problem. I bought the Ionic on 1 May 2018.

- For the first 4 days it showed sleep stages properly and I was happy.

- Then from 6-8 May it did not show the sleep stages.

- After restarting the Ionic it did record the sleep stages on 9th May.

- But after that it has stopped showing the sleep stages (even after repeated restarts)

The watch and phone app are both updated (32.10.15 and 2.50, respectively). For the last week I have tried all proposed solutions (keeping watch higher from wrist bone, a bit more loose, a bit more tight, restarting the watch and phone). Unfortunately it still does not record the sleep stages.

It properly records automatically the starting time of the sleep and waking up and also the heart rate is properly recorded. Only thing that seems missing is the sleep stages.

I received my IONIC 25DEC17. All functions worked OK except for some occasional difficulty in syncing. It behaved like a Bluetooth handshake problem. It was annoying but workable. I was able to view my sleep stages for 97 consecutive days without any problems. Then one day I was notified by Fitbit of an Update. Being unaware of their competence, I went ahead and installed their update and it was bye-bye sleep stages, notifications, etc.......After waiting 30 days for Fitbit support to fail to correct the problems, I saw that "Matt in Fitbit support" was announcing a new update, OS 2.1, firmware version:27.32.10.15, that was destined to solve the various IONIC functionality problems.   ........Again, I installed the new update and the only improvement I observed, was that the annoying "need to recalibrate" message had finally stopped appearing on the IONIC 3 times a day. My sleep stages correctly appeared for two days and then returned to sequentially displaying the useless sleep patterns. ......Here's the final twist to my story: my wife also has an IONIC. Her's has been working fine since October 2017. She refuses to install any IONIC updates based on my IONIC's deterioration and what she's read in the discussion boards. She wonders why the original Fitbit IONIC software developers aren't working on these serious problems? ....It appears that they're the only ones that know how the IONIC works! .........Do the Fitbit Support managers know why the IONIC's problems aren't getting fixed?

I recently updated my Ionic a couple days ago and i got the sleep stages for a day but i’m back to simplified sleep. It’s a little frustrating that something that costs $300 and doesnt work properly.

I did yesterday also a Factory Reset to my Ionic, but it still did not solve the issue that the Ionic does not display sleep stages.

Bought my Ionic a week ago, have had simplified sleep details for each night, really disappointing since this is the main feature I bought it for.

@NielsR Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Thanks for reporting the situation you are experiencing with the sleep stages when wearing Ionic.

Are you still experiencing the same? There are some situations that may prevent your watch to track sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed).
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

Check if any of those situations happened that day and let me know! Smiley Happy

Except for the first night the heartrate readings seem stable so I think I'm wearing it right. Battery seems fine. Sleep should also be long enough unless short restless periods while asleep are enough to mess it up?

I've only once used the begin sleep option in the app to see if it changed anything, aside from that night I've used the automatic detection.

@NielsR Thanks for your reply and for providing those details regarding this.

Are you still experiencing the same? I don't think short restless periods while asleep will affect the readings.

I'd recommend performing a restart on Ionic. This should help you out with this.

You can also try turning it off and back on (find the option in the watch's settings app).

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy
