As I sat in my living room, a houseguest stood in our kitchen wearing her brand new Ionic. She received a text message on her FitBit. The text message had been intended for my phone (iPhone 6s) and our numbers aren't even remotely similar; my phone never received the message.
My iPhone is connected to my FitBit (Charge HR - can't receive texts), and when I checked my bluetooth settings, it was definitely not connected to her FitBit.
Can someone explain how this can happen and how it can be avoided? It's scary to think that if another FitBit wearer is in range of my phone, they can get my texts.
Thanks.

It is impossible that a fitbit from someone else can somehow pick up the text message from your phone.
The message would have to be on your phone first, before it could be picked up by any fitbit app.
So if you phone does NOT show the message, there is something wrong with the iphones (Double simcard, network connected?) and not the fitbit.
Check if the other phone got the message or your phone got it.
That is where the message comes in, and if i understand you correctly, your phone does not have the message and the other does have it.
