The treadmill calculation is wrong,  as u can see the total should be 7435X1.36=10111

Hey there @dorst622, it's nice to see you around the forums! Thanks for sharing some screen shots of your Treadmill exercises.

I'm wondering if you're holding onto the treadmill side rails?  If so, the tracker cannot detect your number of steps since your arm is not moving.  If you walk with a normal arm swing on the treadmill, it should count the proper number of steps and calories.

Also, remember that if you are using the Treadmill exercise mode on the Ionic it will use the Walking Stride Length and not the Running Stride Length for calculating distance from the number of steps.  This will cause the distance to be off substantially. So, if you are running on the treadmill, it is better to use the Run exercise mode, assuming you have correctly set up the stride lengths for Walk and Run.  But, it is important that your arms swing freely in order for the tracker to count steps, and not held next to the body.

Hope this helps, I'll be around if you need further assistance!

This is a math problem

, number of steps count and running step stride doesn't sum up . Check out the screen I provided

Yep, correct, its a math problem.

I'm starting to think that some people have a script to use to reply with, and not actually look and read the questions that are being asked, or actually looking at the issues with screen shots.

Clearly this was a maths  problem, if your running stride is 136cm, and you've taken 7435 steps, it clearly should calcuate 1.36x7435

Thank you imeson79.

At least someone is reading this post.

Hi fitbit support,

Pls read my post and do attention to the screen capture.

In fact I have posted 2 of my treadmill record.

Pls fix this simple bug.

It should not be happening in the first place. This is a fitness tracker smart watch. Fitness tracking feature should come first.

Hi everybody,

Take another look at @MarreFitbit's post. Treadmill only uses walking stride. Running stride doesn't come into play on Treadmill mode.

Have you done the maths ?

Proof it.

No, I just noticed in previous posts there is only mention of the math not working for running stride, which isn't used for treadmill. Have you tried logging it as Run mode and seeing the difference?

Indeed the treadmill is using walking stride, tested with 2 runs, one with surge and one with ionic .

This doesn't make sense to me. Since I am running on treadmill can we have running stride for treadmill.

So to measure my running with treadmill I suppose to use run feature? But isn't that using GPS?

I wonder if there is any traction on this.

Hi all, I have to adjust the walking stride, the calculations are now more accurate but it doesn't multiple correctly. I am wondering where does it goes wrong ? How does ionic calculate treadmill distance ?  Steps X walking stride = distance.

Pls advice

I've tried using Treadmill, Run and Walk on the treadmill and can't get an accurate distance with any of them, running or walking. When I walk on the treadmill (in treadmill mode) and go 1 mile my Ionic will record something less than 1 mile, usually around 0.6-0.8 miles. I don't hold on to the hand rails. I've got my step length set to "auto", and I've done several runs/walks with GPS to help "set" the stride length.

When I am walking only on treadmill in treadmill mode, my fitbit and the treadmill are much closer together. When I walk and jog, the fitbit reads a lower distance than the treadmill.  I haven't tried to do "running" on the treadmill to see what it reads when I walk and jog...I will have to do that soon and report my results.
