When I walk at home on my treadmill IONIC does not count the steps. What is the problem?

If you are holding onto the handrail your hands are not moving like when you are walking so the Ionic cannot count your steps. Don't hold onto the handrail when using the treadmill.

Hi @SunsetRunner - I agree with @SunsetRunner above. Wrist worn trackers rely on arm movement to a large extent to accurately count steps.

I have a treadmill desk workstation at home, so my arm is generally not moving. I may need to continue to wear my One if I am using it unless someone else has found a workaround.

Hi @DrJWo - You can try to put your tracker in your pocket, while walking on the treadmill. It won't be 100% accurate, but it will record steps.

Thanks! I will try it. I just set up the Ionic the other day, so I am pretty new to it.

I am aware of the research that trackers worn at the hip pick up walking and running better. But no tracker is perfect for every activity. Plus, I'll still need to wear a Polar chest strap for Spin class. I've been a little reluctant to go the Fitness watch route, but time to adopt the new technology.

@DrJWo it sure would be great if Fitbit would either support chest straps, or allow importing HR 🙂

I've paired chest strap with Apple Watch on spin rides at hotels (work travel), although I prefer to record with my Garmin Edge 520 bike computer because it syncs rides to other fitness platforms I use. Really would love to see Fitbit support BT chest straps.
