I recently got a notification to update the firmware for Fitbit Ionic.
However, while trying to update on my iPhone 6 I am getting the error of Wifi Firmware update failure.
Even switching to bluetooth for the update doesn't work. What could be the reason?

Hi, @raosuraj, you cannot update via Bluetooth or mobile data. Your Ionic will need to use wifi to perform an update.
To set up or change wifi connection on your Ionic go to your app, click on the icon for your Ionic and on the next page scroll down to wifi settings. The screens will walk you through
If you do not have a home or work wifi network to connect to, perhaps you could try a public network such as in a coffee shop or restaurant?
I hope this helps.

Have you tried it with a computer and the Ionic plugged into the computer?

How do we update the firmware after connecting the Ionic to the computer?

I found on another forum a link, there one option was that if you have more devices on fitbit app, disconnect them (forget device) and try again. It worked, hope for you too.

Just removed all old apps and restarted Fitbit and reinstalled the app and configured WiFi to install the new update. Then it worked
Thanks!

I’m having this problem and NONE of these solutions have worked for me. The update stalls and continues to “update” for hours. It eventually quits. There does not seem to be a way to update via my laptop, as was possible with other Fitbits. This is so frustrating!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6, I tried several times to update Ionic firmware, it would take a long time then fail. Finally I went into Settings, Connections, More connection settings, turned on the Download booster...and it worked...hope this helps...peace

The possible issue is most of the nowadays WIFI router has 5G and 2.4G WIFI bands. For Fitbit or Versa specifically, it can only connect to a 2.4G WIFI with N-band. You will need to connect your smart phone with the 2.4G WIFI first, and use the fitbit on your phone to update the Fitbit Versa. I found out this the hard way and it took me 5 hours to figure this out as my phone was connected to the 5G WIFI band. The WIFI band connection will need to be compatible with your phone vs Fitbit. Hope this helps.

My recommendation would be don't do the update! My watch (Ionic) was working completely fine untill I did the update. I had issues as well and tried all possible solutions, still wouldn't update. Customer service tried helping (on the phone for 45 mins), with no luck. They had me factory reset it and now it doesn't work. Again on the phone for over 1 hour trying solutions but none worked. Spoke with a supervisor and all they could offer me was a 25% discount on a new one because it was a year and a half old, so over warranty. Extremely frustrating considering it worked just fine until I did the recommended update an it was nothing I did wrong. Apparantly they don't stand behind their product, so I would not recommend fitbit to anyone.
