Can anyone who has used this tell me if it records steps while you are driving.
I am interested in this device but the problem I have with my fitbit currently is that it records steps while i am driving, I know for a while there you could tell the app on your phone you were driving so it would stop recording but that has since gone (and was a nuisance to keep turning off and on).
As this device has quite a hefty price tag I would rather not buy it, if this is still an issue.
I want an accurate step count and having 500-1000 steps added while driving is frustrating.

@stardreamer. I don't think anyone has one yet as a preorder has a delivery of 3 to 4 weeks. But stay tuned. Once people have them I'm sure they'll talk about them!

I hear so many people complain about this. Yet I've never had this happen to me and I've had almost every fitbit out there at some point (flex/chargehr/Alta/Blaze/flex2)
i wonder if there is a setting makes it more prone to doing so.

I've seen this happen with me with both the One and Blaze. However, it's never been as bad as others have stated, so I'm not as frustrated about it. Ive noticed my Blaze give me my reminders to move notification and say I have like ~221 steps to go even though I was driving the entire hour. When I used to take the DC Metro into work, I'd notice about a dozen or so steps get logged onto my One during the ride.

I will be interested in reviews on this topic, since the answer to the Charge2 feature request for a driving mode or an OFF button was that the Iconic would have a new, improved algorithm and should see greater accuracy, reducing erroneous step counts.

@POTATOEMAN if you are going up and down hills it will record the altitude changes as floors and stairs.

I'm hoping the developer of the drivebit app or someone else will make something for the Ionic through the new API's. It would be much more convenient to start the driving activity from the watch rather then the phone every time.

@NellyG thanks for the reply. I didn't even know it had an altimeter; I thought it counted stair steps by using the accelerometer , similar to how it records walking steps (I think ?) I never read the manual.

yes,it counts steps and floors while driving or in a plane. There should be a way to deactivate it while on a car/bus but also plane(turbulences)

Yes it'll add steps while driving based on the road you're on. Same with altitude for stairs.
I'm an automotive journalist and was off roading recently and climbed over 200 stairs in while behind the wheel.
