excess steps registered when charging

So, on Tuesday I took my Ionic off and plugged in the charging cable.

The screen went black, then the FitBit logo came on and stayed on whilst it was charging.

When I disconnected the charging cable my proper screen returned shortly after, but there was a problem

My step count for the day was reading as 536,878,850!

As I was in work, my normal total for the day would be about 6k!

As it was by the end of the day I had registered 5.97Km distance, soooo...how can I get the step count changed to reflect my actual distance for the day and not have all of my stats screwed up by this ridiculous reading?

Is the Fitbit near a vibration source like a fan, dehumidifier, or even a computer CPU? It can see the vibration as steps and add false steps.

You can enter a driving record to get rid of them

Delete Steps

But it sounds defective and I would Contact Support.

Hi Wendy.

No it wasn't near anything and the 500million steps were added instantly not incrementally and I've not got anything that oscillates or vibrates at that frequency.

I tried the motor miles thing but that only wiped the distance and actual steps I'd physically registered, all the rogue steps have remained.

To be honest I think it's time for a new brand of tracker. My ionic no longer pairs to my phone (huawei_p30lite) receives notifications and the straps on all my fitbits have been horrendous quality.

I'm sure there are many satisfied users out there but my experience of fitbit has been one of great expense, low quality and very poor reliability and longevity. Really expect more and better from a premium item.

Thanks for your suggestions, best of luck to you
