@adigeneralWelcome... All Fitbit devices can pick up vibrations/movements etc like sitting on a table with a vibrating fan..
How many steps were involved because if it was very low it will probably help compensate for the some of the steps you lose during the day using a wrist type tracker.. I lose anywhere between 4-10% based on my Fitbit One which is always in my jeans coin pocket ( without coins)

Thank you, first question I had was how many steps.
You are not to find that the tracker sitting on the same table as a fan counts false steps.
The only way to remove them now is to record the time as driving.
I found a feature request that you might be interested in voting for. Add a pause to the step counting

Set your stride manually. Before I set mine it guessed my stride was 31.5! When infact it is 20.5.
This has made it more accurate. I get a few extra steps counted through sleep and other activities but in the grand scheme of numbers these are minimal.
Now I have it set correctly I do find it quite accurate.
While on the subject of inaccuracies. I thought my heart rate was reading wrong. My first aider at work who is also a first responder for the local ambulance service carries a medical grade monitor on him; the one you put on your finger.
The reading on that device was the same as the Ionic which I was was quite impressed with.

In order for it to not count that many steps overnight, you have two options: either move the Ionic or move the fan. The Ionic will pick up vibrations from the fan, hence why you're getting so many steps.
