it is really disappointing to remove this feature, the whole idea to get notifications on the fitbit is to keep phone on silent, and one of my main reason to purchase a fitbit is to receive notifications while my phone is silent
This is a known issue that will hopefully be fixed soon. Keep an eye on THIS THREAD where any updates will be posted.

That can take weeks or month. 😞
Bad service on Fitbit side.
Good mods here, thank you!

I completely agree. I used to turn my phone's Bluetooth off or just go to the quick setting on my Ionic whenever I wanted to stop receiving notifications, which was always when sleeping when all I wanted was the alarm (that always worked all the time no matter what your notification settings were). As soon as I picked up my phone in the morning, I'd turn on Bluetooth to sync and check my sleep quality. It completely sucks that Fitbit removed this feature. I always wished they'd tie notifications to one morning alarm, so notifications would turn on and sync would happen automatically when the morning alarm went off.
