why is it that most nights I don’t get a detailed description of my sleep score indicating REM and deep sleep? some nights I do, I’ve tried changing where I wear it on my wrist, how I place my arm, is there a technique to wearing it so it produces a sleep score rather than just how many minutes it took to fall asleep, how many times I was restless, and how many minutes I was restless

Are you setting the sleep start on your Fitbit app?  If so, don't do that.  I was having intermittent success; I thought I had to set the "start sleep now" on the app.  Then I didn't do it and it worked.

Just wear you Fitbit to bed and fall asleep regularly; don't use the app.  Then in the morning, you can turn your phone on and sync and it should give you the number and the stats to go with it.

Just don't use the "start sleep now" on your phone or iPad or whatever.  Works every time for me now.

Glad to have helped!  Kind of counter to logic and no clear instructions!  Be well and stay safe!
