tracking swimming

There is much to like about the Ionic -but as a regular swimmer - and unless there is something I am doing wrong - it is a great shame to find that the tracker cant give me an up to date summary in real time of the lengths I have swum

I set it going at the start of say a 1500 metre pool swim and it doesnt log the first length - after that the screen shows one length less than i have actually swum - i get to the end of the 60 lengths - press the pause button and then it shows accurately 1500 metres and 60 lengths -

What is that about - is there a way of sorting this out ?

And there is no GPS for open water swims - or do people use the running GPS for this function ?

Would it be too difficult to make the GPS function work for open water swimming ?

Thanks

Thank you Dirk! However I got the information from customer support and also through some comments within this community that always on mode unfortunately does not work during swimming. Hopefully this will be fixed at a future software update.

You keep hijacking the thread which is related to the swim tracking malfunction. If you want to learn about the features of the device or how to use it, I suggest you read the user manual or open a new thread if you want to ask something.

I also use the swim tracking at least once a week and it is inaccurate every time. I always swim 1500m in a 25m pool and lap count is different every time. I was hoping that the least this watch could do is free me from mentally counting my laps. But I can't do that since I would end up doing either too little or too many laps. In my 1500m swim sessions I've had the Ionic count both 2100m and 975m worth of laps!

@Dawnphin swimming activity if tracked on Ionic doesn't enable GPS. There's no support for openwater swimming.

Thank you. I am annoyed as I asked all this before I purchased the watch and was told it was great for open water the only thing that wouldn't work was the heart rate senfor.

It is frustrating that the Ionic can't track open water swims, I checked online it is waterproof to 50m in pool, lakes or the ocean.  What's the point of advertising this if it can't track distance in lakes, oceans or other open water swims? Also my Ionic has recently stopped working due to some condensation build up after swimming in the sea on holiday last week. I love swimming in the sea and am keen to track my distance whilst training, do I need to change to another manufacturer or can Fitbit resolve this?

I just used the watch to track a swim and it was off drastically.  Somehow it managed to determine I was swimming freestyle, yet missed well over half my laps.  I swam 1600 meters and it only logged 375!

I experienced the same problem. Issue was resolved by the following.

* watch should be worn below the wrist  knuckle not fingers side.

*the band must be snug and pressed against the wrist.

Let me know if this works.

Good Luck!

I don;t use my Ionic any more for swims. I log the swim afterwards.
the only really usefull swim tracker for both pool and open water is the Marlin. It is absolutely super.
