Hi there, @MarinB. Welcome to the Community Forums.
When you turn on the do not disturb or driving mode setting on your phone, your Fitbit device receives notifications but won’t alert you. Swipe down from the top of the screen to see your notifications.
On the other hand, if you enable sleep mode on your Luxe:
Sleep mode turns off automatically when you set a sleep schedule. For more information, see Settings app.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Maria
That means the answer to my question is no, it is not possible. I don't want to go into some menu to view messages. They need to appear, without vibrating.
I'm extremely disappointed with the Fitbit UI/UX
With the company being a leader with such devices, I'd expect the experience to be much refined.
It's like a cheap chinese knockoff from the late 90s of some **ahem**ty gadget.
I gave it a try for 3 weeks. Not sure who the product team are or if they have had any real world experience, but they suck and the UX is terrible.
I'll be putting this device up for sale and getting an apple watch.
