I decided to restart from scratch as my Fitbit Luxe has mixed-up data for my partner and I trying it.  I therefore deleted data (Clear User Data) on the Luxe, then deleted the Fitbit Service and Google and uninstalled the app on my phone.

I then Installed the app, which invited me to sign in with Google -- but when I tried a pop-up invited be to either 'Go back' or 'Recover'.   I don't want to Recover, and if I Go Back I am stuck in the loop.

The same happened when I tried to log in to this Community -- I'm having to use an old gmail ID.

Do I really have to wait 30 days before I can use my Fitbit again?

@Forcau Have you tried the Recover option to see what it does? Are you trying to delete all your existing Fitbit stats? Like all your previous steps, sleep, activity?

As far as I know, if you want to reset all your Fitbit stats to zero as if you never used a Fitbit before, you need to create a new Fitbit account with a new Google account. However, there is an option in the Fitbit app to delete data. I have not tried it, but you might start there.

  • From the Today screen, tap the profile icon in the upper right hand corner
  • Tap Fitbit Settings
  • Tap Account Settings
  • Tap Delete Data then follow the instructions to delete your data.

So you wouldn't need to create a new account if you can delete all your existing data. This should reset it to zero, but I can't speak from experience.

Hi Heather, thanks for the quick reply!

Yes, I am trying to delete all my existing status -- it is only a few days worth -- because it is a mix of 2 people and settings.

I don't want to create a new Google account because so much is attached to my current one (contacts, e-mail address, phone settings, PC settings, Chrome settings, etc.).

The problem is that I cannot get into the Fitbit app because I cannot get past the Go-back/Recover popup, so your 'delete data' suggestion is not practical :-(.

@Forcau I would Recover your account and try to delete the data using my steps above. I believe that will be the only way unless you create another Google account, unfortunately. 😕

OK, I will try that -- thanks.  After all, I can delete the Fitbit service again and then wait the month.  I suspect I shall have to do that anyway :-(.

What a weird design, though ...

Well .. went to try the 'Recover' path, and (after doing this a dozen times today) the popup didn't appear, and now am able to use the app.

Maybe 'somebody' was watching this and fixed the problem :-).

In any case, thanks to all.

Mike

@Forcau Glad to hear you got back into the app. Were you able to delete your data?

well, Fitbit just updated and I was back to 3 days ago; cannot progress without Recover.  So I tried that -- seemed to work .. then tried to Delete data as Heather suggested.

Response: "you cannot delete data within 8 days of setting up an account".

This was of course 12 days after I set up the account that was just recovered.   One could not make this up!
It would seem that it is impossible to 'start from scratch as though the device had just been bought'.   Why?!
I still have hopes for my Fitbit but it is now weeks since I bought it and it is not yet "fit" for purpose.
<sigh>
