Am I The Only One?

Am I the only one on here who is trying to lose weight and Monday thru Friday I do great (exercise, eat right, take my Plexus ) then, the weekend comes and everything goes out the window?

Probably not the only one now, for sure not later as motivation starts to wane for many.

I'll put this out there - that effect many times occurs because someone is taking an unreasonable or extreme diet or deficit attempt.

It's unsustainable, or perhaps unhealthy anyway.

You can barely hold on through the week, and just binge on the weekend.

Maybe that isn't you, perhaps other reason.

You got that figured out yet?

Best if you could.

Sometimes for overall ability to make changes that will see you down the road actually reaching goal weight and sustaining for a year (80% of dieters fail those things), taking a more reasonable approach that you can sustain is better.

Like if through the week you think you have to cut out all these foods you could never really give up - then what will occur if you reach goal weight?

And it could be that the amount of deficit you are attempting through the week is reasonable for amount to lose - on paper.

But mentally it isn't working because of what occurs on the weekend.

It might be a better effect to take less deficit every single day, and adhere over the weekend too.

And then look forward to maybe taking a week off the diet after you've lost 10 lbs.

How much do you have to lose to get to healthy weight?

What is your current deficit?

Do you log the food accurately on the weekends?

Because a whole week of deficit can easily be lost in 2 days, shoot can overeat and gain on those 2 days even.

@Heybales  Great answer Heybales.  I don't see how to give you anything more than a vote though.

Today after avoiding real pizza for about 15 years, I bought a frozen one and cooked it.  I ate half of the small pizza and it was fairly terrible.  What a disappointment.  I found it hard to believe.  But I threw the other half way and tomorrow I'm going to cook the different variety.  But for all you folks who are staying on your diet.....GOOD FOR YOU.   A better decision.  You may not be missing anything.  My other break from my usual pattern was to buy a pound of hamburger.  I made 5 little patties out of it and cooked them all.  I ate one;@ only 112 calories  very high protein count.  very worthwhile.  First hamburger I've eaten in 15 years too.  (It was the most lean kind.)  Not as tasty as I expected.

@Glenda  - that points out so well some foods left behind may not be missed now or later.

And you can figure out how much of something truly tasty can be left in the diet.

I guess the problem is when say a bag of favorite chips can't be eaten for just say 100 calories - once opened the whole bag is consumed.

If someone had that issue then indeed just avoiding some foods may be needed.

@Lisa9666 I tried that in the beginning...seeing dieting as a work schedule, but nope, didn't work for me.

A few things finally clicked so I hope these help

DIET...not using that word. I'm changing to a new Way Of Eating (WOE). I should be able to eat same foods 7 Days a week.

Great food...I don't eat diet food. I enjoy foods I'd eat regardless. Just found ways to work them into the WOE so I feel like I'm living and not starving.

Calories Out...I do work my Activity Bonus back into my Food Diary. I'm seeing it less as a reward and more of my Active Lifestyle.

IF what we do isn't sustainable, enjoyable, and workable every day of the week, then it's time to either resign to never achieving the goal OR tell ourselves we are worth it and make choices to be successful while working a plan that gives us that success.

Hope this helps!
