I find it so frustrating that I don't have the option to have fitbit automatically include my BMR(basal metabolic rate) when it comes to my calorie budget. I've read that there used to be a way to change it to "sedentary" through the web dashboard, but since they discontinued the web dashboard I have yet to find an alternative way to change it from "personalized".
I often end up WAY under my allotted calorie budget because of the fact that fitbit does not take into account the calories burned while sleeping or after meal times, I would much rather prefer to have my base level be my starting budget and then have more calories added throughout the day as I am more active or work out.
This is a very inconvenient system, if anyone know how to change it in fitbit, or knows of a calorie counting app that can and is compatible with fitbit, please please let me know.

I use macrofactor app, which is compatible with fitbit, but its on its way out as far as compatibility. I also use an ihome scale, which has an app that will calculate your bmr and calorie expenditure based on your logged food and avg. Weight over 3 days. Fitbit is mostly for tracking average expenditure so that you can know when your're over or under training, while scales complimented with macro counting apps do the calorie budget. I ran into the same problem and this was the only solution I could find.

Agree, have the exact same issue. Can’t work out a way to get it to include your BMR like it used to! End up having to guess how many calories you have left which defeats the point of using it…

I ended up calculating my BMR(base metabolic rate) for a 24 hour period, then I divided that by 24 to get the rate I burn every hour, then divided the hourly rate by 60 to get what I burn every minute, I then figure out how many minutes till midnight and multiply that by my minute rate.
It's a pain to have to do it manually especially since fitbit used to have the feature to do it, but it's been working for me pretty well, I do still try to shoot a little below the estimate till midnight as factors such as falling into a deep sleep or state of heavy relaxation can lower the amount burned at rest.
