Your calorie burn is a combination of your Base Metabolic Rate (BMR) and any activity you do (walking, exercising, etc). BMR is that which is needed to keep you alive (organs functioning, blood pumping, temperature stable). Your BMR is estimated based on your stats (gender, age, weight). You can find out your BMR by checking websites that have BMR calculators. Fitbit's calorie expenditure includes your BMR, Your total calorie expenditure (BMR + activities) is what needs to exceed your intake.

You've only misunderstood like many just how many calories the human body burns just being alive.
You are thinking of just exercise perhaps, not even the getting out of bed normal daily activities.
Most people burn more in their daily level activities than they could in 1 hr of exercise.
Shoot, some people make that 1 hr so hard and feel so good about it, they get even lazier for rest of the day, causing the exercise to really end up being a tiny increase to their daily burn overall.
If only there was a device to estimate what we burn daily....

Hi everyone!
As @wtksk8r and @Heybales mentioned, when counting your intake of calories, you have to take into consideration your BMR. A lot of sites and dedicated apps recommend you to intake a bit less calories as the one burned during an activity to lose weight! Mostly they forget to include that you still need calories just for being alive (BMR) 🙂 ! Mostly their calculations are based in activities only!
You have to keep in mind what your goal is, if it's to lose/gain weight, gain muscle, etc. Depending on that you should base your diet and exercises.
