Calorie left is very wrong!

According to my fitbit as of 10am today (I'm still in bed - not moved yet) I can eat 3500 calories. Seems abit high. Yesterday based on the calories I burnt apparently I had 7000 calories to eat. Is that even possible??? I'm 12st 2lb target weight is 12st. On average it's telling me I could eat between 6500-7500 calories a day!!! I have not set any calorie goal.

P.s. I've emailed the fitbit support team they don't have a clue.

 Hi Bauer24.

My fitbit tells me I have 672 calories left to use, I haven't logged any foods today. I have also 'apparently' used up 480 so I think it has me on a starvation diet lol.

I am pretty new here as well so  hopefully others will chime in.

Which fitbit do you have?    Did you check here:

https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Help-Forums/ct-p/product

Some  people have similar posts and you may find something that helps you.

Are you a male or female wanting to lose 2 pounds?    For an active male with only 2 pounds to lose

I would think your calorie count  could  possibly be 3500.       Especially as you said you haven't set an intensity level with the calorie counter.

But as far as the  7000 calories it said you could have,  agree that is alot of eating.    (or did you run a marathon Smiley Wink)    What was your Fitbit  step count  yesterday?   Did you enter any other activity?    That would determine your calories allowed   plus  all the calories you get just sitting around, being alive  and breathing.

Calorie-wise I think I would set it up the way you want it.  Also in other threads they mention stride length--you can figure this out and put it in manually for more accuracy.   But for most I think the default seems OK.

You have the option of choosing the aggressiveness of your  weight loss.     Easy to Hard Intensity.     You can also set the Daily Calorie Estimate Setting to PERSONALIZED or SEDENTARY.      I put it back and forth until I figure out which one I prefer.   Sedentary  shows a very low calorie count but as you move you get more calories.  Takes some getting used to but  I will adjust.      Eventually later in the day they will both be the same.

Takes some playing around with the site  if your problem is just settings.     Good luck.  Hope you get everything squared away.

Kay,  you gave me a chuckle about your starvation diet.  Hey you want to lose weight don't you?

Just kidding!.

I'm new too but wonder if you have the Daily Calorie Estimate Setting which allows you to put in either:

PERSONALIZED  or SEDENTARY  set to sedentary.       I am getting used to the SEDENTARY  option one  but I think it has me on the same diet as you as the calories are very very low and then they jump up as you move around with steps, etc.

Plus you must have it set to Hard Intensity where you lose 2 pounds per week.

All this is very new.   Years ago we were  told eat 1200 calories or whatever and that was that.  Now  we have to get into this new technology and a new way of looking at things.   But, hey,   I can use all the help and motivation I can get.

Thanks for the reasoning; I'm a bit of a techno-phobe. Half the time I don't remeber to put the fitbit back on after a shower.

I will have to read to why's and wherefores to see if it is set correctly; either that or Big Brother is watching and is trying desperately to give me advice re my calorie intake.

Hi Heybales, if your post was directed to me its definately calories. if it was in kilojoules it would be far worse as it would convert to only 160 calories! and I'm hungry enough as it is lol.

Not sure about the other post though.

Today after doing 24,000 steps (4pm) apparently I could eat 6,000 calories!? Don't think I've ever eaten that much?!

Wait - is the weight correct?

If the weight was really high, or the height for that matter for resting time, than daily calorie burn would be off.

Outside incorrect stats or steps being seen, or distance too, then you got a malfunctioning unit.

Reset would be in order. Look it up in the FAQ's for your device.
