I've just turned my Fitbit on after not using it for a while and it has synced with 'my fitness pal' app - my goal is set in hard for weight loss =1000 cal deficit and it is showing 1394 calls in and 562 calls over in red - the cal burner says I burned

...I burned 1653 calls and I also burned 170 in exercise (not sure if that's on with the 1653) - I'm completely confused as the numbers don't add up !

I don't understand the calories burned either. I also don't understand how many calories I have to eat - it changes all the time.

Okay, I don't use the myfitnesspal app, however, I can talk a little about how many calories you can eat during the day. Fitbit has 2 settings - the default is sedentary. This means that it assumes that at any point in time you are going to do nothing for the rest of the day. This often results in very low calories in the morning since all that you've done is sleep. I'll use myself as an example:
@6:10 today I have burned 2862 calories, 1694 of them through activity (that means 1168 calories are just from existing). Now, my Fitbit assumes that I'm not going to do anything between now and midnight. So, it's going to tell me I can eat based on what the minimum is that I could burn at the end of the day. If I do more exercise, or even just move around more, the number I can eat will go up.
This means that your calories for the day are always going to be their lowest at the start of your day and highest at the end of the day. You eat and log food in between. Now, I don't usually pay much attention to where I am until late afternoon. If I've had an inactive day then I'll make it up before dinner.
