I might be crazy, but I'm sure the first day I got my flex it automatically added calories, I did nothing! Later that day I remember adding my daily food intake and do it daily since. So, can the fitbit do this or was I dreaming? If it can, how do I change it? Thanks!

It will calulate your BMR.
As to counting what you eat you need to add that yourself

Try listen to your amazing body (not the plan, even if there's calories left) when it tells having eaten enough (feeling satisfied, not needing more) to prevent over eating. Your body knows the best. ![]()

But incase you don't know what that is - sleeping calorie burn.
Until the Fitbit sees steps - it assumes you are sleeping, and you were given that calorie burn up until you put it on that first day.
Default setting in account is to start assuming the daily burn matches about what you do daily - so historical average. This is before it sees a sync from the device, and for initial daily eating goal.
Constant syncing corrects that assumption.
