October-December is a treacherous time for me, as I'm sure it is for everyone else. For my family, we have vacation at the beginning of October (Maui this year). I'm not sure who gets more excited for Halloween Trick-or-Treating; my daughter or me. Don't even get me started on Thanksgiving and Christmas is like a conglomeration of both! (foodwise, of course). Then, just as the candy is running out at the end of January, Valentine's day rolls around.
Holy Guacamole.
I think I have a good chance of sticking to it this time around. I've approached weight loss differently. I'm not dieting. I haven't cut anything out of my diet. It's been all about moderation and it's worked so far. It shouldn't fail me now either.
What do you do or what are you planning on doing to stay with it this holiday season?
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

I really like what you say at the end. If you fail to plan you plan to fail. I think that is key in all of this. Maybe as the holiday seasons approach coming up with yummy things that are not so far off the healthy beaten track will help satisfy you and keep you on track. Good Luck !

For me its going to be about pre planning as much as possible and making sure I track my portions. Halloween candy doesn't bother me, its the cupcakes and muffins and everything spice flavored lol. I am gonna be making healthier versions of my favorites this holiday and just fit them into my daily calorie allowance.

I had to travel for four days last week. The first day was all traveling so I packed all my meals and snacks. Day2 I decided that since I had not cheated for almost 3 months, what could hurt having Olive Garden for lunch and the dinner was pizza. The next two days were also traveling but noway to pack and no fridge where I was staying. Can we all see where this is leading. I ate! I ate alot! I also drank pop while I drove. I gave up pop months ago .So I gained four pounds and that week taught me how I became over weight. It's not that I can't eat out, it's that I can't eat out everyday. With the holidays my plan is to eat healthy and stay moving. If I eat healthy all but Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, then I think I can get through this season andd not gain weight. I am just under 10 pounds to my goal and I will not let this time of year screw that up.My Halloween candy is already bought and it isn't even tempting me. Eating healthy makes me feel great, LAst week I felt like crap.

Eggnog will be coming up for sale. Hopefully not earlier this year.
I plan to work it in to the calorie limit by dropping other normally done treats, though a serving is so stupid small. Might just save for big workout days and have decent amount. Hope that tides me over from looking at it in the fridge.

Part of the problem with the "d" word, diet...is that it sets one up to failure if forbidden foods are created. We all have holiday foods the represent the spirit of the season for us. I think a healthy balance is to indulge the cravings. There's a big difference between having the scalloped oysters, the favorite pumpkin pie, maybe seconds or thirds on the stuffing and getting out for a brisk hike after dinner...as compared to eating everything at the table, feeling MORE stuffed than the turkey and curling up on the couch for the evening. Get out and enjoy the Fall air!

We had several bags of Halloween candy left over, so rather than keep the tempting bites in our house, we mailed them to a relative who has kids and said they would love them.

@LewWagner Great Idea! I'm sure they will share all the candies with everybody so this won't hurt anybody

Great post @katiesTARDIS ! The past week or so I've definitely been fighting some urge in my body to store up calories for the winter like I'm going into hibernation. The time change didn't help either! I haven't thought too much about my plan yet, but I think the most dangerous thing, at least for me, isn't one day at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's all the goodies that people set out almost everywhere at work and other places for snacking! Just yesterday my collegue put some donuts that he had left over for his students in the office space where I do my paperwork and they called to me every time I walked by. I resisted, but that deeply ingrained trait to take one is strong. I just have to remind myself that if I gain any weight I won't have any clothes to wear since I gave all of my bigger clothes away after losing the weight!

For me I gotta get back on track by the following:
I always eat out of my plan and gained +21 from it. Gotta get back in the groove of all 7 days no extras and hit the gym hard on the weekends.
