Challenges and Cleanses

Ok so I have a few questions.

I am looking to do a detox followed by like a 21-28 day strict food challenge. I am just trying to gather information on who has done this type of thing, where did you gather your information, and most importantly how did you know how much to eat? Did you follow your fitbit stats or is there a real plan?

I was considering Whole30-only thing I don't like is the no grains and that I don't know what the calorie goals should be.

Anybody have any experience with challenges or cleanses?

HI, I have not done it yet myself, but my neice has done it twice. She loved it SOOOOO much the first time, she became a representative for the company. After the second cleanse she is so happy, she wants to return to school for ntutition. It's called Advocare. If you want her information, and an amazing coach, living it every day, message me. My husband and I have both completed the Whole 30.  We find it really beneficial.  In fact, I think everyone should do it at least once.  Not only will you help your body clean out accumulated 'junk', you will also become very aware at exactly which foods have what impact on you personally as you add them back into your diet.  That is great knowledge!  I would highly suggest getting the book and reading it first before you start, "It Starts With Food".  Not only is there great info on why the 'rules' are what they are, but it is also great motivation and includes some great resources!  Good luck and God bless!

Oh, I forgot to mention, there is NO calorie counting in the Whole 30.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans for hope and a future.

Hello! I have done the Advocare 24 Day Challenge. On my first challenge, I lost 27 lbs and I'm currently on day 8 of my second challenge and I'm down 5 lbs so far. I am a pretty big girl so I have a ton of weight to lose. I know a lot of people that love this challenge, and the Advocare products as a whole. It's all about eating clean, portion control, and most importantly, staying hydrated! Check it out, and if you have any questions, please let me know!

Advocare = $$$$$$$$ out of your pocket.  never mind that aside from 'proprietary ingredients' you won't know what the hell you're eating/taking.  Replacing 'food' with drinks and tablets?  Not sustainable.  MLM.

Better to learn to cook/eat really foods from the earth.

There are a few 21 day plant based challenges that will no only be light on the budget (nothing to buy but the food from the store!), all but guarantee you'll lose weight, have more energy and detox/cleanse your body (you're liver will thank you!!!!).

Or do some searching for "Clean eating"....eliminate processed foods.  If it says 'just add water'...avoid it.  Whole foods.  Organic.  I'd say ditch meat/animal products because they:  Cause inflammation in the body, deplete calcium from your bones, contain unneeded saturated fats and cholestoral.

And besides, you CAN in fact have all the flavor, texture and umami from plant based meals as you can from your animal based meals....it's true.  You can plant-base EVERYTHING and even carnivores won't know the difference.

Hey there @RKing10 ! As @SunsetRunner has mentioned, usually pills + shakes combinations are not sustainable; usually working with real food is the best way. This way you'll be more accountable on your intake and overall progress.

I'm not vegan or vegetarian, I believe in the proper management of a caloric budget to achieve your goals.

Follow your food plan as a guide and make sure you write down your meals as soon as you are about to get them; this will prevent the moment where you are holding your food log and remembering how much you ate and underestimating amounts. I have a tiny notebook where I write down the meals and their weight, so when I'm ready to write them down, they are accurate.

Get a food scale and measure everything. Increase your water intake and find different sources or variations for the meals you love that won't take a hit on your caloric budget.

Have a rest day! Enjoy your food and don't miss out on the opportunity to eat different.

Good luck!Smiley Very Happy

There’s no such thing as ‘detoxing’. In medical terms, it’s nonsense. Here is an article that explains.

That said, the Whole 30 dietary guidelines sound really healthy, as long as they are just advocating real foods and not special, processed supplements.  It looks like they are. I haven't read the book.
