Hi there.
I am off diet coke for a week now. I LOVE diet coke... especially pepsi max... The reason I have stoppet is because of a suspicion that it causes me to eat more and to crave sweets. Now, I am hoping and waiting to see a result on the scale ... this change of habit. Does any of you have the same experience as I? Or can you drink it with no worries? Would love to hear your experiences with the stuff 🙂 !

I used to drink Diet Coke -- maybe 8-10 cans a day. When my gall bladder started to make some stones, I decided to quit drinking it. Do I think DC had anything to do with the stones? No, not at all. But, when I finally started to drink water instead of DC, I suddenly had an extra 30 bucks or so extra in my budget, and that was cool, so it's now been over a year since I've had one.
Have I noticed a drop in my cravings for sweets? Not in the least.
Have I noticed that my weight mysteriously dropped? Not in the least.
Have I missed the caffiene? No, not in the least.
Do I miss drinking them? Sometimes, yes. But when I tasted a fountain version of Diet Coke instead of the can, it tasted horrible. I tried the can, just to see - and it was horrible, too. So, I do miss the way I remember it tasting, but since it doesn't taste that way anymore, I don't miss it at all.

Diet sodas absolutely participate in sweets cravings.
I will have to find the article I read and post it some time, but the "fake" sweeteners like aspartame, etc... , while they do not impact your glycemic index from a caloric perspective, they still process at the cellular level like sugar. So - that basically means that while you are not EATING the sugar, your brain still recieves it like sugar... and sugar begets sugar.
I still like diet soda, I have to admit - but now that I drink over a gallon of water a day, I really dont have room for it anymore.

Thanks for your different oppinions I am looking forward to find out what it does for me.... I am still off diet coke/pepsi max. one and a half week now. I miss it a little... but I am starting to really love water, which is new for me... I also think I am eating less and dont´t get so hung up on ex.. ice cream... I could really obsess about it, and go through great lengths to get it, if I got it on my mind... I still crave it, but now it seems easier to tell myself no, that it is not for me right now... I believe it has someting to do with my stopping my diet coke habit

I usually drink at minimum 1 diet coke a day. More like coke zero. However, I drink a ton of water. So hopefully that offsets it.
I'm sure when I put Jack with my Diet Cokes it doesn't offset well.

I quit drinking soda (diet coke) about a year ago. I definately do not have the constant cravings I used to have. I didn't notice a difference right away..I only drink water and black coffee. Lots of water in fact. I also have better dental checkups as well. Far less plaque and problems when I go.
