Eating on vacation/holiday

Hello, I am quite new to fitbit, nice to meet you all.

Here is my problem, I am from England and I am going on holiday to Florida on in 13 days. Last time I went to America, I couldn't stop eating because the food is so much nicer!!!

Does anyone have any tips on what I could order to stay in shape?  Will restaurants mind if I ask for veg instead of fries?

I think there is a gym where we are staying aswell but I will be in holiday mode and will want to relax 😞

Thanks

Gina

Welcome to Fitbit... and to America! 🙂 Most restaurants that aren't a fast food chain are very willing to substitute veggies for other items. There may be a $1 or so surcharge, but it's worth it to avoid the fried foods. Being on the coast, much of Florida has great seafood options, so try for broiled fish, scallops, and other seafood.

Have fun and stay fit!

Don't ever hesitate to ask about replacing anything for a veg.  Everyone understands people trying to eat better.  Yes, they might charge you a small fee for the change, but in most cases, they'll make the substitution for nothing.  Only hit the gym if you already use the gym in England.  If it is a habit you already have, do it.  But if it is not something you already do, I would not start there.  Would not want to be sore or stiff from doing exercises my body is not used to.  Go for walks, explore the area, visit parks, beaches, walks the shops.  Since your on vacation see what there is to see, don't get stuck sitting at the pool all the time.  Have fun but stay active. My steps always go up on vacations.

Thanks for the help. I would rather pay a charge and eat veg any day.  I remember the food portions being quite big last time I was in America I could do with eating relatively healthy.  I do go to the gym a couple of times a week, plus I take classes and work out at home so I think I should go to the gym maybe twice just to keep myself in shape.

Thanks so much for the advice 🙂

Even if you are not a "senior," you often can ask to order off the senior menu which generally has smaller portions, and sometimes is less expensive. Some restaurants are very willing to extend the senior menu to other customers, especially if you explain that the reason is because you want a smaller portion.

You also may be able to order off the children's menu, but in general I find the children's options to be unhealthy fried foods (chicken nuggets, hot dogs, fries, etc.). It's a shame that the restaurant industry is encouraging parents and conditioning children to order unhealthy food just because it's on the children's menu... but alas, that is a different topic. 😉
