Fitbit calories ?

Hello,

I've been using my Fitbit Charge HR for over a year now and have also recently bought a new one.  I am fairly well active. My calories count when I go to the gym can go up to 4000 calories. My issue is that I want to get more muscly but based on the tracker I would need eat up to 4250 Calories ish a day - Which sounds weird! I don't even think professional body builders eat that much. Am I missing something ?  I don't think the fitbit is broken as I had one before which used to measure the same amount of calories. My stats are Male/26yo/ 6ft. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Rod.

Hard to say whether the estimated calories burned is accurate or not (I've seen many people comment that the HR-enbled devices overestimate their calories burned) -- I agree it sounds high, but you haven't really said anything about how active you are.

Have you been measuring how many calories you've been eating (either through Fitbit's food log or somewhere else)? Doing that and then looking at the trend in your weight (loss, maintenance, etc.) is the best way to figure out what your actual calories burned is, and then you could compare to your fitbit's estimate.

Of course, calorie counting is not completely necessary. If you want to bulk, you could try just increasing the amount you're eating, weighing yourself (I'd recommend also using a trending app) and then adjusting your intake until you're gaining the ~0.5 lb/week that you're aiming for. I think that in the beginning, you'd have to ignore any sudden jump on the scale as water/waste/food and not freak out, but hold steady for a week or two to see what's really happening.

Hope that helps!
