Following program but………...

So I have a fitbit one, which I love. Because of knee problems, I walk every morning 1 1/2 miles, then I try to do 1000 steps as many times a day  at home, as I can. I have an open concept home, and lots of room to walk briskly. I try to get my 10,000 steps in but can't always depending on my knees.

I log my food, and other than 2 days have been within what parameters fitbit has set.

This of course is following pre and post christmas binging, and baking.

So you would think, after a major binge session, in December, and now eliminating all that stuff, I would have shed at least a few pounds. 1/2 pound down!!!!! Frustrating.

I will admit to having a cookie or two in those 3 weeks, but I always log it in (faithfully)

At 30 it seemed so easy to loose weight............at 66 not so much!

Hope this changes, at least a bit, before frustration sets in.

You may find this Strong Knees exercise DVD helpful.  I broke my knee last year, messed it up really bad and still have trouble with it, but phyical therapy type exercises really do help.  In regards to weight loss, it's really more about what we put in our mouths than anything else even though exercise is very important.

I don't know what your weather is like, but if you can't get outside you might consider a walking DVD and do a mile or two a day (at different times if need be)  You can order these on line or Wal-Mart and Target usually have them in stock.  These DVDs are chaptered very well, you can select how many miles, and which miles you want to walk, create your own workouts

I personally would not rely on fitbit parameters alone to determine what/how much I need to eat.  If you haven't already, take some time to figure out how many calories you think you are burning in day, work from there to determine how much of a deficit you need.  It's really difficult to lose weight if you eating more than you burn, or eating exaclty the amount you need to maintain current weight.  It should also be an eating plan you can live with for life, not a short term fix.  Otherwise the wt will come right back.

Karen McCoy of McCoy fitness is great!  I joined her Healthy Living Program and really liked it, I learned a LOT from her.  I recently dropped out, I'm no longer working so have to save my pennies, even though the HLP program is not expensive.

A book I really is called "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle".

Or  many women like Tosca Reno's Clean Eating books and her website (link below).  I have a few of her books, but prefer the Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle book, and I like Karen McCoy much better.

Because calories in per gram, not cups or spoons - do you weigh everything you eat, even packaged items?

How frequently do you eat out, where the calorie estimate is going to be possibly terrible?

You walk 1.5 miles by a distance you know to be true, or that is what Fitbit says?

If true distance, what distance does Fitbit say?

Are you taking too aggressive of a diet goal for amount to be lost, setting up a fight with your body you'll lose (and not fat)?

Thanks for all the replies. I now live a comparitively sedentary life, compared to my past life. I was a runner, taught 6 aerobic classes a week, and did weight training. Then came the arthritis, and knee problems, and 25 years older. Two bouts of breast cancer. My life has changed dramatically. Walking 1 1/2 miles is quite painful, but I need to walk. Eating 1200 calories, 10 years ago, I could drop weight . Now around 1100 calories is a chore. I very rarely eat out, although I did eat out once in the last 3 weeks. And I was honest about it on my records. But it is very rare that I do. Having been a certified aerobics instructor, I studied nutrition, so I am aware of what I should be eating, although that does not mean that I have been, in the last few years. I have been recording everything that went into my mouth in the last 3 weeks, yes measuring and weighing.

I guess after the Christmas binging, and suddenly being very strict, I was shocked to have dropped 1/2 pound. You are always told, eliminate the garbage, and exersice and the weight has to come off. The words make sense.................but.

Well we will see what happens in the next few weeks. I was just venting.
