while i don't doubt people post to find "friends" who are looking to motivate and get motivation from others, i'm wondering about some others. for example, one poster (no names to protect the innocently guilty), within the last hour, posted in 6 different forum subsections looking for "friends". and, those are the only posts they've made
does that seem weird to anyone else? do you get access to any particular information if someone "friends" you? are people using the fitbit forum to sell their services or products? i have reported blantantly obvious spammers and the mods have dealt with those posts. but, i'm wondering if all these people looking for friends are really just trying to be more subtle.
or is my cynicism starting to show itself?
(and don't even get me started with people who's very first post is "has anyone used <insert some unknown product or diet program here so people have to google it and their website gets more traffic>?")

Any social site, any social group that is computer generated is going to have it's share of kooks, trolls, people targeting the gullible, and just some unique oddballs. It's just sorting through people's profiles to get an idea where they're at. Something that bothers me are the ones who jack a particular chat with inappropriate banter and basically scare off anyone else from posting.

I understand what you mean.....I got sucked into a group for the soal purpose of trying to sell me something. It may be a good product....but dang there are so many out there!! I think the only way you can be safe with your info is just be totally private in your settings.....but even then your still taking a chance.
