I went from going to the gym 5 days a weeks 3 hours minimum a day as I dont work to quiting the gym a couple of weeks ago and going out and buying myseld a full home gym set and dumbells and just doing home workouts as I find them less intimidsating and I hated all the stares and bad looks also nice looks from the guys I would get whilst at the gym. I go gym to lose weight but I found when I started at the gym I just come out of being in hospital for 6 months from a really bad car accident and I had to learn to walk, talk, eat and everything else all over again so my weight wasnt the isue I only weighed 49kg but after 7yrs of doing the gym Ive ended up being 60kgs and I just cant get the weight back off me for some reason and I have read in alot of articales that people who go to the gym for long periods of time usually put on weight and plateau because your body is so used to all the exercises that its just a routine not a metobolic workout, which was very disappointing to read. But the gym set I bought was $450.00 and it takes up a whole room. It has lat pull down, rowing machine and also that is good for your arm exercises, it also has leg curls.
