Have you lost weight since you got your Fitbit?

I am the exact same weight as I was when I got my Flex 3 1/2 months ago!

How about you?

I'm hoping with Spring here and Summer around the corner, that my walking will increase.

Lost 12 kilos since getting the fitbit, it's really helped with the motivation, also seeing how my resting heartrate pretty clearly went down (by about 10 beats per minute) after starting to excersice gave an extra carrot to keep at it.Though, now I've arrived at my target weight of 80kg (I'm 185cm), and I'm trying to not loose more weight, but just "relocate" the last of the weight, and it's hard as hell, harder than loosing it.

Excercising minimum 3 times a week (Circut training, gym, and tennis), trying to eat right, but not overeat (I'm really scared of regaining my weight, I REALLY don't want it back, seriously I look at pictures of me from last year, and that's not how I want to look). But I can't seem to get rid of the last bit of fat (specially around my stomach), I'm holding steady at around 18-19% bodyfat no matter what I do. I'm eating clean, no fast food, cutting alot of carbs (still eat some pasta for energy for workouts), mostly tuna, cottage cheese, eggs, chicken for protein.

Any tips would be appriciated.

@SunsetRunner: you need to decide whether you want to lose fat (which requires eating at a deficit) or build muscle (which requires eating at a surplus). If you’re eating at maintenance, you won’t be doing either, or it will be extremely slow. You should also accept you will probably need to lower your weight further (from the current 80 kg) if you want to drop your BF %.

Thanks, I thought that 80kg would be a good target weight for my height, but I guess I should aim a bit lower, I've come this far, another few kilos should be possible. I'm just afraid I'll loose lean mass as well. I guess I should push down to at least 75kg and work up from there to build up more muscle.

Thanks again @Dominique

@Dominique is right, if you want to loose more %bf you are going to loose some lean muscle mass, unless you do it extremely slowly. I have come down from just under 80kg to my current weight of about 68 kg. I am 179 cm and my body fat% is around 13-14% down from 18%.
I definitely lost a few kg in lean mass along the way. This is natural since the body is basically trying to protect you from starvation by canibalising lean mass which consumes more calories and trying to preserve the fat.
Now I am working on maintenance mainly and letting my body adjust to my new weight. In a few months I'll work on regaining some lean mass, hopefully without increasing my %bf although my net fat in kg will probably rise a bit.

@SunsetRunner: given that you’ve already lost 12 kg (possibly in a relatively short period of time), you may want to stay at maintenance for a while, just to let your body recover from the stress of weight loss and get it used to the new weight. But once you’re ready to get moving again, you should do things (lose fat, gain muscle) one at a time. The "recipe" for minimizing lean mass loss when in a deficit (for losing fat) is: 1) to eat enough protein (you’re already doing this), 2) to do resistance training (preferably lifting heavy). I know it’s mentally hard to accept you’re going to lose some muscle when losing fat, and gain some fat when building muscle, but that’s the way it is. Hopefully, after several iteration cycles, we’ll end up leaner and more muscular!

@Dominique: I've lost the bulk of the weight since about January, and for the past month (mid august), I've held at around 80kg. How long would you recommend staying in maintenance before I go into deficit to lose another few kilos?

Best Answer

It really depends on how you feel. Your one month at maintenance would qualify as a suitable diet break. You can probably start dieting again for a couple of months and lose 3-4 kg. This should bring your BF closer to where you want it to be.

Lost 15lb since I got my fitbit. What stands out for me is step goals, heart rate monitor, and calorie tracking.

Heh heh, I lost 18 pounds the first month and I thought geez, this is going to be a cinch! But then I bounced back up five poinds and started fluctuating in that 5 pound range, 223-228, for the next two-and-a-half months! But in that time I learned to focus not so much on the scale and more on making sure I was getting more consistent about making smart food choices and getting my steps in! I just recently broke out below 222, and I think I'm gradually on my way again. But weight is a funny thing. At least mine doesn't go down smoothly in one continuous line. The important thing is I'm feeling better and can tolerate exercise much more than I've been able to in years. I just have to trust my waistline will get to where I want it eventually!

I don't think anyone's weight goes down in a smooth line. We all have ups
and downs. Weighing each day and watching the overall trend over a two to
three week period is best. Don't worry if at the end of a week you are
slightly more than at the start, especially if your average for the week is
lower, but even if it's not don't worry about it.

Just review what happened during the week, a little extra indulgence or a
little less activity or whatever. Just accept it, and try to change it for
the next week.

If the trend over a 2 week period isn't going in the right direction then
take a closer look at what you are doing and ask for help if you can't find
a reason or if you need motivational help to get over a rough spot.

Everyone here is willing to help, we have all hit rough spots at one point
or another.

Glad you are still feeling motivated, just keep at it and you will get
there.

The answer is Yes & No. When I first got the Fitbit in 2013, I lost 6-7kg in 3 months using it. Unfortuantly I started a German course so my walking dropped off and I largely maintained my weight. When the course was done I ended up doing some part time work for the last 2 years that had me at a desk and cut my steps (and motivation - curse you depression) significantly and I put on 10kg.

I've started actively walking again these last few weeks, and slowly working on my diet and I'm slowly starting to lose weight again. At the moment its about 1.5kg in the last 6 weeks.

Fitbit One User, they'll only take that away when I die!

Update: 80 pounds total since March 1, 2016. I have just hit my 50lb mark since receiving my Blaze around the first week of April. I'm going to shoot for another 80 by January 1st. There are 94 days left in the year so I'm pretty confident it can be done. Great job to everyone for being the healthier you.

Just to be aware - time based weight loss goals are fraught with aggravation.

For most that aggravation is stress - and stress causes water retention from increased cortisol.

Talk about stress now.

Also, the rate of loss when you have a lot to lose is possible to be faster and less stress to body - that is not true when you don't have as much to lose.

80 is still a lot, but not the last 40, 30, 20, and 10.

And almost 1 pound of loss per day - very unrealistic unless you want to lose lots of muscle mass and repeat this next year but even harder to do so, after you gain fat back.

Just a warning to keep it realistic and safe and not repeating it year after year.

One pound a day isn't unrealistic at all. It is a hint of mathematics with
a lot of desire. Time based goals can be frustrating but so can being
200-300 pounds overweight. Sometimes you have to do what you are told is
impossible or can't be done to achieve the life you want to have. A one
hour walk plus my regular daily activities puts me around 5,000 calories
burned for the day. With a 1,500 calorie intake it is achievable. On my
best day, I have burned almost 9,000 calories. Weightlifting and a higher
protein intake will help with the muscle mass. It can be done. It is not
easy but it is definitely doable.
Best Answer
Well is that safe to do that. Wouldn't that mess up ur metabolism.
Best Answer
It is safe depending on what you eat. If you eat 1,500 calories worth of
potato chips and ice cream then I could see it being totally unhealthy. I
eat a lot of fish and chicken for protein. I still consume carbs although
the general consensus is "carbs are bad". I also eat a TON of leafy green
vegetables. The more the better. Collard, turnip, and mustard greens, kale,
spinach, etc.
