Help--my BMI is going up!

I've been using my Fitbit and Aria scale for the past 1.5 weeks--so I'm not expecting miracles.  The good news:  I have lost 1.7 pounds so far (from 141.3 pounds to 139.6 pounds).  The bad news:  I am losing lean body mass (from 99.5 lbs to 96.3 lbs) and am gaining body fat (from 41.8 lbs to 43.4 lbs) with a total body fat gain of 1.4%.  I have no idea what is going on!  I eat lots of protein, do lots of cardio and weights. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.  Can anyone tell me if this is normal?  Perhaps it is too early to tell what is happening as I don't have enough data points to really see the trend line, but want to ensure that I **ahem** this right away if I am doing something wrong.  I am concerned about giving up some of my cardio because this is really the only thing that helps to bring my weight down.  I find that I usually gain weight when I lift more weights.

Hello @zookie! I believe that the first 5 pounds you lose when you start a workout routine are from water. It is also too soon to know what is going on, but from my experience, if you lose weight in the first week, is water weight. I you gain wait after working out for about a month, this is muscle weight.

I believe that @runningmama24 or @6PackDreamer can give you a hand with this. Here are their group links so you can join in:

i wouldn't worry. it hasn't been long enough to determine anything.  like all scales, there's a margin of error in the aria.  the body fat percentage measure also depends on your hydration level and probably other things.  so, give it a month and then see where you are.

also, weight loss starts in the kitchen.  have you modified what you eat at all?
