"Front load" with healthy stuff. So, start every meal with a salad or piece of fruit, then eat veggies and eat the more calorie-dense stuff last. Also, don't keep unhealthy foods in the house.
Portion control is only really an issue with calorie-dense foods anyway. Most of us don't eat enough fruits and vegetables.

Someone once told me that a habit forms in 3 weeks. While that is a generalization, that concept worked wonders for me. I found that if I pick one thing I want to do or change, after 21 days it becomes substantially easier or even effortless. This works with portion control because it really helps to have a set timeline. Keep focused on your plan and see where you are in 3 weeks. Making a 3-week goal can be very encouraging and can jumpstart your skills for successful weight loss.
