How Humiliating

Ok, so I know this is minor and may be over sharing but I have to get this out.  I have just had to order new work uniforms.  I have 5 perfectly good uniforms sitting in my wardrobe that I received in June last year.  So why, have I order new ones.  They don't fit! they dont even come close to being able to be done up.  putting my new measurements into the system I was horrified to discover I have gone up by 7cm in my waist and chest measurement and 12cm in my hips. Meaning I have gone up 1 size in tops and 2 sizes in pants.  I guess I knew i had put a little weight back on but this has kind of given me a realitty jolt 😞

Thankyou for listening to my moaning and groaning.

@Annette_GThis is the place to moan and groan, among friends who understand the struggle to make changes. You're not alone. Now that reality has hit (boy can it hit harder than the proverbial ton of bricks), you can go forward, doing your best and knowing there is support for you here.

Little by little, it will get better as the weight and centimeters diminish. You can do this!

Welcome to the forums.

The change from long sleeve back to short sleeve did the same for me even though the size is the same. Had to order the next size up. I was not a happy camper. Everything else fits fine, but my work short sleeve shirts do not.

I hope you will believe me when I say, I know exactly how you feel. I have been down in the dumps (let's be honest, depression) about how many of my clothes I am not giving into. Last year I was able to drop close to 50 pounds. Circumstances and other things that should not come into play cause my activity level to drop drastically. However, I have learned that a positive attitude and visualizing myself at the weight and size I want to be is the majority of the solution. The last thing you want to do is give up. I guess because that's the easiest thing to do. I found one of my biggest mistakes was weighing myself every day. I have cut that down to once a week. I am well on my way to returning to the weight I had last summer. So stick with it. If you need someone to correspond with feel free to email me. My email is leon@hallmountain.com. I know you can do it and so do you.

It is frustrating - but that's why we're all here - because it's hard on our own. Reaching out in these forums and admitting what's been going on is creating a network of accountability.  One of the other posts commented to the effect of: now you're aware of it and it's hit hard; but the harder it hits, the more incentive and drive there is to do something about it.  Good for you for recognizing and reaching out.

These little flex fit thingys and newer technologies give us tools to find words of encouragement and resources to make changes - one small step at a time. You came out here and took a small step to tell us what's up. Now it's time to go for a walk or put the ice cream back in the freezer (just trying to lighten it up a bit...) one small step at a time. The weight crept on slowly over the course of months, it's gotta come off the same way: little by little - but it can be done.

Hey now, don't feel too bad....we all get this way sometimes. For me, stepping on the scale is daunting. I hate looking at the scale and will not want to see ANYTHING. This can be a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing too. My trainer always gives me a knowing smile and asks if I want to see it. I ask her how good or bad its going to be and she's always very vague......but hints to which way its tilting. But this is a little off the topic.

Personally, I find that I get flipped over whenever I start a new job or I have my "lady's month" (guys, I am sorry for mentioning.....tried to put it as lightly as possible). I either fall to temptation or to pitfalls. It might help to look at your day and figure out if its just plain cravings or if its just pitfalls. By pitfalls, I mean the times that just catch you off your guard. Kind of like going to the grocery store right after you finish your workout.....that kind of thing. There are always ways around things like this.

Bottom line though, no matter what, love yourself for everything that you do.......even the bad. And don't knock yourself down. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and try again. You could say that I am doing that myself. Although in my case it is to further my successes because I realize I don't move very much. I have been prone to sitting on my butt reading when I could be outside and active......so, this fit bit will help me. And I am sure that it and all of us here, will help you too. Have faith.......things will come through.

Hey, you can TOTALLY do this....I have been working very hard, lotsa stepping and tracking my food for just over four weeks, and today I got into one size smaller jeans!!  It just takes time and dedication. Dont give up on yourself!!.  I am in your shoes, I have way too many cute summer outfits (shorts, tank tops etc) that just look awful on me right now...the ones that I can squeeze into that is.  But the smaller jeans today tells me that I am on the right track!...Finally!..Still have about 40+ I'd like to get rid of but with this walking regimen and watching what I eat, it's seeming quite doable!! .Like an earlier poster said, it didn't come on super quick so it will take some time, but you know what?  You are worth it.  Make yourself and your health a priority and get it done!....Try not to get down on yourself. Find that inner strength...You got this!...:)

Smiley FrustratedI can relate, my weight is going up instead of down!  So depressing, I was doing quite well and had lost a few pounds but then my weight started creeing up and up and now I'm back to where I started a few years ago.

I've never lost more than 7lbs and it's starting to get me down.  I feel too heavy for my body if you know what I mean.

Any ideas - apart from nailing my mouth shut

Hi Annette,

I can definitely relate! I started a job about 10 months ago and had to get uniforms! and these uniforms are similar to Target corporate clothing with the small size clothes. I had to get the bigger size for the business shirt short sleeve because of my arms but asked my mum to pull the body back pleats in alot as the body was floating on me!

Anyway, I have never had much luck with pants and just got the stretchy ones that I new would fit! (we had 8 women who all needed fitting in uniforms within 2 hours!) so we could not contemplate for too long with only 2 dressing rooms! What a rush!

But I am going to lose this weight and be happier for it! That situation certainly made me aware of how I felt when I had to go one size bigger in the polo shirt from the ladies 2XL to the mens polo next size above!

So here is to our weight loss! CHEERS! Go US!

@ wizzywig? and Annette and the others (don't know if I spelled names right...)

I think a lot of times too when we set out to do something, to conquer and win, especially something like conquering that which controls us (for the most part), we tend to slip in to a self-sabotage mode (unconciously) - our minds/bodies do what they can to protect and perserve what's comfortable, what's known, what's familiar ... then when we do something huge, like alter the comfort zone, we go into self-attack and self-preservation mode.

It's rough; and its easy to first beat ourselves up and then give up (what's the point? I'm happy the way I am. It really is simply too much work ... - - these are conversations I'm sure many of us have had) - but the key is to keep finding people and resources where we can express this and get feedback and allow our body and mind to learn to trust that the new way will end up being the new comfort zone.

Gaining weight; over eating; finding excuses to not exercise are going to be the typical behaviors - the hard part will be the consistancy to break free from previous habits. its' doable. that's why we're here. that's why we've all purchased products and found new technologies - -because we need a little more outside motivation.

One trick I started doing is to set alarms (I've got about 5-6 of them) set for the latter part of the day. The thing shakes at me. It serves as a reminder. I stop and look around: what am I eating; can I go for a walk right now; put the ice cream back in the freezer ....

This is my thoughts on this. It may be a reality jolt, but you now know. I think I have been in denial for years as I gain 10 lbs a year and now cry when I see a picture of myself now. Your mind is easy to trick and make you think it might not be bad...when you might have work to do (speaking about myself, not you specifically)....

Don't be so hard on yourself. You have your good uniforms that you can try on every once and a while and see if you are making progress. I would just concentrate on making good choices, one day at a time. That is what I do. I don't weigh myself, but try to beat my best week of Fitbit every week (that is my short term goal). My fiance is very overweight, eats pizza, loves eating out, hates working out...so I have challenges staying focused. If you need support, I will help support you:) Terra
