Sometimes the title of this post is a recurring theme. I sometimes think that the diet industry and television tend to make people think they are failures if they aren't dropping an insane amount of weight each day and/or week. So, since I'm a numbers person, here's my take. My scale goes in increments of 0.2 lbs so I'm going to work with that.
0.2 lbs / week x 52 weeks = 10.4 lbs in a year
0.4 lbs / week x 52 weeks = 20.8 lbs in a year
0.6 lbs / week x 52 weeks = 31.2 lbs in a year <-- this is actually where my GP suggests I aim
0.8 lbs / week x 52 weeks = 41.6 lbs in a year
1.0 lbs / week x 52 weeks = 52 lbs in a year
Remember, most of us are looking for long term, sustainable changes to our lifestyles. It may not be flashy, it may not be super fast, but remember that even the small losses add up.

So true. It's not a race. The slower it is the better. It tends to stay off.
I know we see .2 and it's disappointing. But it is a loss and it all adds up.

G'day one and all, I agree that little steps are the way to go for a healthier life. I have moved away from scales and just have a tape measure now, and my belt. I have made my meal portions smaller and try to make better choices. I still enjoy a cleansing ale on a weekend and refuse to eat brussel sprouts or kale with a passion. The Fitbit Charge HR is a great way to monitor my activity and I really enjoy the different workout challenges that I am involved in. I participate with Crossfit for an hour each day Mon to Fri and feel much better for it. If anything my weight has slightly increased over the last year as body fat has decreased and muscle tissue has increased.
Education has been the best thing for my healthier lifestyle.
Cheers
